You can do a SEARCH (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php?s=) and find out all the information you should ever need.

"Recently" meaning "ever since they were founded", yes.

i'm well aware of what a search can provide however I want to know how is managed.com doing now, not a week ago, not a month ago...

i'm looking for opinions from people who are hosting with them, if you don't have an opinion there's no need to post

IRC server network good for 3 weeks then they added some rate limiting type stuff to it making it hardly useable, and also got debited on my visa without my authorisation. needless to say they have now refunded me and we are no longer with them.

4 support tickers were unanswered yet they were able to do a manual payment on my debit card and respond to my threat when I found out they debited my card illegaly, defenitly stay away.

I've had a server at managed for 'personal' use for coming up to 1 year.

No complaints regarding the quality of hardware and the datacenter itself/power stability:
23:06:20 up 222 days, 11:09, 5 users, load average: 0.42, 0.20, 0.12

Network uptime has actually been very good for us - the only incidents I can remember as being an annoyance were almost a year ago when we first had the server, there were a few incidents at weekends where things were down for the best part of a day, but since then the only issues I've noticed have only been what I'd call 'glitches'. Again, before the anti-managed crowd reply claiming 48 hour down times every week, this is based on what I've noticed, and my route in from the UK which seems to be reliable enough.

Support was never brilliant, however when I have used it (rarely) tickets have at least been replied to. We had an OS restore from FreeBSD -> Debian when they began to offer Debian and had a major glitch in that they wouldn't let us back in to the server as they would only send the root password to an email address that was hosted on the server, the worrying part being that this was after they had restored the server, a bit late to be going security crazy as they had already wiped the server from a request from an email address they had no record for (our fault, and we'd have sent the request from the correct address if it had been requested prior to them wiping the server). I've read reports of people abusing this in order to get someone else's production server restored - and this worries me the most about managed.

Add to this the fact that I'm currently reading many reports of managed simply not responding at all to tickets other than billing issues that result in them being payed, the reports that one of the co-founders of managed has left to start his own venture, and that I believe the guy who currently 'runs' the show is the same guy that is known for selling out his previous ventures, and I think it is time to move on. I have a server at layered tech for a similar price, and the difference in support and just the general professional nature of the company in general compared to managed result in two services that cannot be compared - I'm now moving all my servers over to layered tech as they get round to renewal, so the managed server will be going offline at the end of this month :)

Managed has been good, and $85/month this past year for a P4 2.4ghz with 1gb RAM has been amazing for the personal sites that run on it. I just believe there are now much, much better services at a similar (if not lower) price that I would feel much safer putting anything remotely commercial on.

Give me a break. I've hosted with them, so guess what, I can post an opinion and or direction to where you can find information. If you disagree, get over it.

The information today is the same as it was yesterday, last week, last month. It's the same reviews stating the same thing.

If you like, come back in a week and I can direct you to the same information, the same reviews, again.

Best of luck.

I would say that sirius would be a pretty good source of information regarding Managed. He has posted his experiences (which happened to be poor) with them many times, and seems to hold a fairly unbiased opinion. If they are being wronged in a thread, I've seen him also post in their defense.

It is true that Managed's quality does not dramatically change as the months go by, so any information you find by searching here might as well be classified as 'recent.'
