Is that a CGI on the server or smething like that? Thanks, Marco allan 01-28-2002, 03:44 PM Two things: 1. You need a NNTP daemon running on the server (it may actually be, look for INN). 2. You need access to a newsfeed. Your ISP may provide you with one, but if you are with a hosting company they probably do not even have one. You can get access to a third party newsfeed from another company. I've used Randori (http://www.randori.com/) in the past and been very happy with them. Just to warn you, if you plan on storing newsfeeds on your server, last I heard there were about 8 Gigs a day worth of postings. zupanm 01-28-2002, 04:04 PM a lot more then 8 gigs. That all depends on what newsgroups you are gonna store. I work for a ISP that does new disting to other ISP's and out traffic through one of our news servers is around 80 gigs a day. We have a 200 gig spool disk for the machine keeping all the news. allan 01-28-2002, 04:07 PM zupanm, thanks for the correction...I should have added the disclaimer that the last I heard was in 1998 :), and even then I think it was without the binary groups. Marco JKD 01-28-2002, 04:20 PM I would like to host just a couple of newsgroups.. no binaries.. How much will it cost?? You would have to work that out with a third party NNTP provider. Price vary depending on what you want, and the number of simultaneous users. Marco JKD 01-28-2002, 04:36 PM Where may I find prices? Can you suggest me some providers? Thanks Marco allan 01-28-2002, 04:43 PM As already mentioned, I have used, and really liked Randori: http://www.randori.com You can find a pretty complete list on dmoz: http://dmoz.org/Computers/Usenet/Feed_Services/ Marco JKD 01-28-2002, 04:45 PM 10x! |
