View Full Version : Seasons for your site...
patriotcow 10-25-2004, 04:04 PM Hi all,
I was just wondering if it would be a good thing if sites look better to suit the season, e.g: noe you would have a halloween theme and then at xmas an xmas theme etc... Would this put new customers of or would it make new people want to order from the site because it looks updated with the season etc.. I am not sure but what do you think?
Stephen :)
gghosting 10-25-2004, 04:16 PM That isn't a bad idea. I think it would be good, not just so it looks like the site is updated, but because it makes your site look nicer.
patriotcow 10-25-2004, 04:21 PM Yea I was kindoff thinking of doing themes for halloween, bonfire night, xmas, easter, spring, summer etc.. Site would look nice :)
Hosting site must look like hosting site :)
I think that the cleaner site the better selling result. Costumer must see the offer just when he enter the site. Xmas template might take his mind from hosting. Small design element would be more suitable I think.
Xmas promo with some xmas button is a good idea.
I would lean more toward seasonal specials. With everything else there is to do you probably don't want to spend time rearranging entire content every few weeks.
patriotcow 10-25-2004, 04:32 PM I mean a theme such as snow sprinkled on servers and tinsel lol. Or have a santa sitting on one etc..:D
brav0 10-25-2004, 07:12 PM I took a hint from google and added a christmas look to the logo plus a couple of other holiday touches last year and the few customers who commented on it said they liked it. And my kids liked it too, so I'll do it again this year, got a designer working on it already. I would not do an entire christmas theme though, that would disorient prospective customers.
UH-Matt 10-25-2004, 07:20 PM Nothing wrong with jazzing up your site for a season but dont expect it to increase or decrease signups - you still have to provide a product the visitor wants. More to hosting than looks ;)
Just don't make it too big of a change, look at google. Their main page gets small alterations just to the one image, something like that would be great

They only have 1 image on the page and thus its a 100% change each season ;)
Seriously though I agree. A nice subtle change can seem like a nice touch. Dont over do it.

Haha, yeah, I was getting at subtle changes.
:)
johnder 10-25-2004, 08:53 PM If brick-and-mortar stores spice up their store interior to suit the season, why shouldn't a web site do the same? It adds to the "coziness" you build with your web site visitors -- it elevates a certain level of intimacy I guess.
Try matching color themes with the season - i.e. soft colors in the fall, not bright reds and blues.

direktiv 10-25-2004, 08:56 PM It could also be a good idea, to hold seasonal promotions ie "Start the new year right" promotion, or "More money for presents" Promotion.. also adding touches to the smaller items on your site ( logo, hosting plans etc.. ) would be a more effective way of giving your site the holiday touch.
Best of luck,
tonyolm 10-25-2004, 08:59 PM THemes do work depending on your clientel. If you are more of a hobbiest hands on type of site people like it. If you are more of a corporate type host they don't seem to care. It's not that they don't care in general but they are busy runnign thier companies to worry if you have pumpkins or xmas decorations on your site. :)
Setix 10-25-2004, 09:40 PM Like brav0 above, I do the Google thing and add a seasonal touch to a couple of graphics. Nothing overdone, just subtle.
