View Full Version : An initial review: site5.com
NetJumpMedia 10-25-2004, 03:23 PM Hello all,
I just want to commend site5.com on their great service and support. I've been a reseller for about 2 years now, and like most of us here, have jumped from host to host for different reasons. Well about 5 months ago I decided to switch to site5 after I wasn't completely happy with my old host. And I have to say they are a breath of fresh air in the overcrowded hosting world.
Here are a few personal experiences with them:
I've contacted site5 tech support about 1-2 times per month so far, and their response rate has been very quick.. less than 30 mins each time. Responses have always been courteous and helpful.
My ISP has started using the common spam-fighting tactic of SMTP port 25 blocking. Several of my hosting clients use the same ISP so I had to find a solution fast. I contacted site5 tech support and they immediately worked with me to find a solution. After troubleshooting a few ideas with me, they actually went out of their way to set up an additional smtp port on the server.
I was having problems getting ClientExec to cooperate with WHM recently, so I contacted site5 support. They immediately tried helped me troubleshoot the problem, and after we could get it fixed, they contacted the ClientExec staff on my behalf. The problem was fixed a few hours later.
To make a long story short, these guys actually take the time to work with you and find a solution that fits. They don't wine or give you a run around, they just provide solid support. Their servers run steady and they keep up with the latest versions of php, mysql, phpmyadmin, etc. etc.
 Cheers to site5. Thanks for the great service and support.
foxmen 10-25-2004, 06:28 PM Great !!! good for you!!!!
In the forum site5 have many good reviews!!!!!
I think The ONE problem ( i am not costumer of site5 )
**** site5 NOT "anonymous" ****
All server are:
xxxxx.site5.com
yyyyy.site5.com
zzzzz.site5.com
You can custom DNS but the IP point TO ---> xxxxx.site5.com
easy to trace hosting provider :( :( :( :( :( :(
foxmen 10-25-2004, 06:43 PM Trace 66.246.81.109
and you see.....
66.246.81.109 -> = katana.site5.com
NetJumpMedia 10-25-2004, 07:25 PM Yeah I can see your point about the tracing of dns servers. But for me, I'm primarily a web developer who hosts design clients when there is a need or if they are new to the Net. So they have little interest in exactly who the parent host is or even understand how it all works. As longs as their sites are up and running smoothly it's all good to them.
For me the dns thing isn't a problem, but you know that is a very good point for others and should be noted.
Tim Greer 10-25-2004, 07:26 PM Hello,
Those are our shared servers (not reseller servers) and they are not intended to be anonymous.
foxmen 10-25-2004, 07:59 PM xxxxx.site5.com
yyyyy.site5.com
zzzzz.site5.com
----------------------> SHARED SERVERS ???? correct?
the reseller server ARE FULL Anonymous???
foxmen 10-25-2004, 08:04 PM I trace now this:
www.netjumpmedia.com
www.blastindex.com
I see: """ liquidweb.com """ :-(
Tim Greer 10-25-2004, 08:09 PM Hello,
Yes, as I stated, shared servers are not anonymous--only reseller servers are anonymous (there is no reason to offer anonymous shared hosting).
Liquidweb is one of the data centers we use to host our systems at. A traceroute/check will always show an upstream provider's address.

I trace now this:
www.netjumpmedia.com
www.blastindex.com
I see: """ liquidweb.com """ :-( Liquidweb.com is one of the data centers that we have servers located in. This is no different than a traceroute to a server at ev1servers.net showing ev1.net. The servers that we have located at NAC will show nac.net in a traceroute, etc. We are in no way a liquidweb reseller--our services are completely independent (we have our own staff, software, policies, procedures and so on). In fact, the vast majority of our servers are not, in fact, located in Liquidweb's data center. It just so happens that the site5.com server is.
Incidentally, as Tim mentioned, all of our shared hosting servers have servernames ending in "site5.com", whereas our reseller servers are on an anonymous domain that is not related to Site5.com (I.E. servername.someotherdomain.net/com).
Hope that clears it up!
Matt
foxmen 10-26-2004, 11:51 AM OK ALL CLEAR!!!! site5 anonymous OK thanks
---------*------------
reseller server host over: nac.net or liquidweb.com
both company (nac.net / liquidweb.com) offers shared hosting :(
fox example: PLANET (theplanet.com ) or ev1.net not offers shared hosting i think is too better for resellers!!!
( remember is my personal opinion )
NetJumpMedia 10-26-2004, 02:05 PM Ok this thread is becoming a little redundant.
It was my mistake earlier that I didn't read closely enough to see that foxmen was talking about the shared/virtual hosting servers (because i knew my account was on an anonymous servername.anonymoushostname.com and not any xxx.site5.com server. )
As Tim and Matt from Site5 have pointed out, the reseller servers are as anonymous as possible. Unless the webhost and the data center are one in the same, the path is eventually going to trace back to a data center.
Anyway, I wasn't looking for a fight, just wanted to commend the guys and gals at site5 for a job well done.:D

ideatango 10-26-2004, 07:45 PM Great for learning. It make me understand what's real difference between shared hosting and reseller hosting. Also, I just add site5 to my next HSP sourcing list. Thanks Guys. :D :D
