View Full Version : aletia or solid load?
rockerbabe 01-28-2002, 01:52 AM Hosturbo made me:angry:
So... I'm switching hosts! I have narrowed my choice down..
Aletia or Solid Load networks?
I don't have much money and Solid load network sounds like good deal but I have heard many good things about Aletia... I don't know which one to choose... can I have your opinions?
pinot 01-28-2002, 01:58 AM Did you scroll down the page? Try this..

I have found the search function at the top of the page to be great for finding what has already been discussed and has often answered my questions with no need to ask. Also the dates are interesting as some things change and often a pattern develops as far as problems folks have been having or not having with certain hosts.
I would recommend aletiahosting for sure but for this, since solidload offers 99.5 uptime guarantee, i would go for sure!
*Make sure you read the tos & term of conditions.
*Check and see what they cilents think of their service.
*if they have a forum, take time to read some of it.
I think i will make a move to solidload too now :)
I cant seem to find any tos of term of condition on the site
Bogdan 01-28-2002, 02:07 AM You can review SLN's terms @ http://solidload.net/i-policy.htm
I'm thinking about signing up as well... if any of you actually do sign up, would you mind sharing your experiance?
SaraMo 02-01-2002, 08:23 PM Yes, share your experience as soon as it's up and running :)
avara 02-02-2002, 07:25 AM Have you considered Ventures Online? Just another choice you may want to look into. :)
nvphone 02-02-2002, 08:47 AM aletiahosting is overrated...............
HostNutt 02-02-2002, 04:09 PM I've heard lots of good things in here about Aletia. They would be my choice if I had to choose.
Janet 02-02-2002, 06:08 PM I think uptime with Aletia is quite good. They keep everyone up to date on the servers.
The only complaint my friend has right now is slow/unresponsive tech support. When he first signed on with them, their tech support was great, but not now. He's planning to switch hosts.
nvphone 02-02-2002, 07:24 PM They have no support.
he4dup 02-02-2002, 11:31 PM i just emailed aletia support with a fairly simple question about domains... and got a reply within 5 minutes.
it was, for them, probably a very simple question to answer, however for someone like me who doesnt have much of a clue.... haha
kennyhibs 02-03-2002, 02:13 PM failed at the first hurdle, signed up last night about 1:00am (uk) and it's now 18:00 and still no sign of my email which they say will be within 12hrs sent a mail to them and another to go shortly to cancel.

rockerbabe 02-03-2002, 03:17 PM Aletia sounds good but it doesn't really fit with my budget. Solid load does... does anyone know if I still can get a refund from Paysystems for Hosturbo?
Well... I'm still searching for the perfect host... :bawling:
SwtSerenity 02-08-2002, 03:40 PM On Aletia.com it states -
Multi-Hosted Domain Support
(Pointed to Subdirectories) First 3 Free, $25/year per subsequent
10 Subdomains for Main Domain
(subdomain.yourname.com)
What is the difference between multi-hosted and subdomains?
I'm thinking between Solidload.net and Aletia.com
I'm not sure yet which one but I want to make a decision soon if possible.
rockerbabe 02-08-2002, 07:38 PM This is what I think.. I'm not sure though, multi-domain hosting is like having more than 1 domain hosted in one account like you have http://www.whatever.com and http://www.lalala.com in one account and subdomain is getting like sub.whatever.com, whatever.watever.com... sorry for my weird explanation
i got my refund yesterday and i'm going to sign up...
i haven't chose one yet though...
SwtSerenity if you choose let me know which one you chose :)
rockerbabe 02-08-2002, 07:45 PM i think i'll probably go with aletia...

I have used them for over 6 months. At start they were great...now they're mostly slow.
High server loads and loads of continious downtime.
SwtSerenity 02-09-2002, 03:18 PM Ok I am so confused now.
I was gearing towards solidload and then everyone said bad stuff and i noticed they were down for a few hours.
then i was gearing towards aletia but then a few people said they are slow and have lots of downtimes.
so now i'm confused. i dont know what to get anymore.
rockerbabe 02-10-2002, 12:07 AM *sighs*....
me too swtserenity o_O
sooooo confused!!
i like solidload it has unlimited ftp accounts and subdomains and it's cheaper but aletia has lots of bandwidth which is good...
sianews 02-10-2002, 02:17 AM Aleita's servers are stuffed. Twice in a little over a week my server has run out of space :(.
SwtSerenity 02-10-2002, 04:07 AM Which one is good then? It seems no host is ever perfect. I dont even mind once a month downtimes . I just want consistency ya know?
I'm very very confused now. I don't know what host or domain registrar to get now.
Antgear 02-10-2002, 04:55 AM I stayed away from Aletia after their restrictive discussion board policy got in the way. I then signed up with solidload. It really was fast and stable initially but I have no idea what they have done since then.
They had a hard drive failure at one stage that caused an outage that seemed to go on forever. Then they moved from
Level3 to Burst and messed up the DNS and that caused outages.
They then added extra disk space and RAM and that caused another outage. Now they have been down for extended periods again.
It's either a case of supreme bad luck or they're just clueless (their setup on the server leaves a lot to be desired - especially with the perl configs but that's another story)
I have been considering going with jaguarpc.com for quite a long time and will probably do so once I run out on the solidload time.
As for domain registrar, I have used Register.com (expensive but built to last I suppose) and I have used domainsnext.com as well. Haven't had problems yet.
SwtSerenity 02-11-2002, 08:05 PM I noticed hte past few days solidload has been down. Like sites that are hosted by them have been down. And sites hosted by aletia have been up. so i might just decide on aletia
Alareach 02-11-2002, 08:11 PM I have an account with them (aletia) for my emergency pager email address (off my servers in case of emergency) I don't really care about the speed, as long as that 1 email gets to me. I watched the server I am on over the last 24 hours and it seems like it never went below 5! Horrible.
Jedito 02-11-2002, 08:14 PM solidload.net load just fine to me.

yeah the official website solidload.net loads fine...
but when I go to sites HOSTED BY them..they are either slow, normally fast, or they dont work at all. I noticed during the night time it doesn't work and during the daytime its either slow or it works fine.
