View Full Version : In need of cheap dedicated server.
Dimonic 11-23-2000, 02:27 PM Hello
I'am looking for the server with the following configuration:
Price: $100-$120 per month
Traffic: At least 10GB (15GB should be better)
OS: FreeBSD 4.1
CPU: At least Celeron.
RAM: At least 32MB
HDD: At least 2Gb
IPs: At least 5
Also I need no support on the service.
Company brand does _not_ matter, connection speed and reliability does.
Please send your offer to dimonic@bonbon.net or post it here.
Thanks
major 11-23-2000, 03:03 PM You might want to check out this thread: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=3263.
As you'll see there, Tera-Byte has a christmas special:
We are also now offering Dedicated Cobalt raq servers at 99.00 a month
the plan is a raq 3 300 mhz system with 32 megs of ram (upgradeable) and a 10.2 gig drive with 100 gigs of monthly transfer additional transfer is only 3.00 a gig. no long term commitments or prepays or setup charges you can get started for only 99.00 a month
my page for this isn't complete yet, email me steve@tera-byte.com with questions.
Hope I don't break any rules by posting this here... I have nothing to do with Tera-Byte :)
mkaufman 11-23-2000, 03:05 PM Check out CheapServers.Net!
They have everything you're looking for I think, besides FreeBSD but you could install that yourself. :)
Dimonic 11-23-2000, 03:09 PM Linux is not FreeBSD :)
RaQ 4 has Linux as an OS..
I need the server powered by FreeBSD 4.1.
I doubt there is a clean way to install FreeBSD remotly. This is a hack and I could fail. :)

check out http://www.insidecrew.net/ they offer freebsd....
Dimonic 11-24-2000, 05:23 PM Thanks
I've checked insidecrew.net. Looks like they have only one
T1 line. :bawling:
Under the network info section of their site it says they have two t1s.
cbaker17 11-26-2000, 10:21 PM Not trying to advertise here, but I wanted to clear up the above post that we don not offer freebsd. We do offer freebsd as well as most any other linux or unix based os free of charge.
Chicken 11-26-2000, 11:31 PM Charles, I know there's been some confusion, but note that it is 100% a-ok kosher thumbs-up to clarify ANYthing that is ever said that isn't quite right, or that is completely wrong. I suggest that all hosts don't freak out, and to do it as nicely as Charles did though :)
Dimonic 11-27-2000, 06:52 AM Charles, I've send you an e-mail on your offer:

If it is not expired yet, I think we could have a deal.
venomx 11-28-2000, 09:34 PM About those "Dedicated Cobalt raq servers at 99.00 a month" did you see the prices to add mySQL and PHP? Would cost you another $500 or so.... steve@tera-byte.com sent me this URL.... http://www.4webspace.com
thats only if i add it, you can add it at no charge its your dedicated server, the price is so high because if i add it i just know ill have to support it :)
Steve
Steve / Keeg,
4webhost.com seems good.... can anyone who is more experienced tell me what's the catch or potential problem with this package?

What is the main difference between RAQ3 and RAQ4 ?
Would this be ok to host about 100 sites ?
How would 300MHz CPU performance live up to PHP4/MySQL sites?
Also I want to install PHP4 and MySQL.
Is there a possibility to upgrade to a bigger server later on?

Anywhere to get pkg for PHP4 on RAQ3 ?
Can I build / compile PHP4 myself?

I'm sure you can upgrade to anything on their main site.
Difference between RaQ3 & 4? RaQ4 has a faster processor, mySQL and php installed. For the most part they are pretty similar.
The 300MHz would be fine, but you'll want to have a good deal of ram to handle the mySQL (128 OK to start, but soon 256-512).
100 sites no problem (though it depends of course on how heavy the 100 sites are). 10 sites might be too much for it if they are realy big and resource intensive.

The RaQ4's SQL is InterBase SQL, *not* MySQL.
Here's a pretty good article on InterBase: http://community.borland.com/article/0,1410,23216,00.html
