## 1
I have managed to setup my cobalt with help of a stranger off cobalt subscriber line and was on the phone for hours till 4 am and I owe him lots of thanks.

## 2
I removed DNS or disabled DNS services on my server raq because what I did once I messed up my ISP's or Hosting Co.'s own DNSes going into a loop.

## 3
I went to my Registrar(S) and pointed all domains to my IP on the rack. I changed the name servers to:

ns1.mydomain.com
ns2.mydomain.com

They offer standard forwarding, parked page, stealth forwarding, IP Pointing and CNAmes.

## 4
When I go to Email settings I get the:

catchall email: *@blly.com <--- goes to blly@myotherdomain.com
I can add aliases where I can point
jow2 -> jow2@hotmail.cometc,

I can also can click on Advance Settings and I get to MX Settings.

It asks me for MX Host, than the Distance

Quote from their menu explaining "distance"

(*) Distance -- This is the "Priority" of your mail servers. If you are only entering/using 1 mail server, just leave this blank and we will set the Distance to 0. If you are using multiple mail servers, put the "distance" in as a number and remember that the lower the number, the higher the priority. IE the mail server with 5 as the Distance will be sent mail before the mail server with 10 as the Distance.

## 5
I went and disabled DNS long time ago, and all my domains work
fine now. Now I have to go add MX Record (Serv. Management, Control Panel..

Under that I added lots of garbage that I just deleted now. This is where I added garbage and made my ISP crash and take all their traffic to my site because of DNS records when they refreshed they took mine instead of theirs or something so I got called up from them.

Now I can SELECT a domain or just click on ADD... and Add a MX Record.

## 6
My questions is:
How good does the MX Record do if I add it IF I HAVE
"Domain Name System (DNS) Server Parameters... " UNCHECKED under Control panel.

## 7
Can I enable DNS, but remove the records under that.
65.170.79.188/24 www.domain.com
65.170.79.187/24 www.domain.com
^^^^^^^^^^----maybe remove these 2 records here

but add:
Add Mail Server (MX) Record so I can than point www.mydomain.com services (point blly.com) to the right MX server.

But than again I have to go to control panel and enable (checkmark) the DNS stuff...

## 8
Did I make a wise choice to have www.mydomain.com handle all my IP pointing, dns, mx stuff and such. I figured it's also good for me because people if they were to do a nslookup they would see:

blly.com
ns1.mydomain.com
ns2.mydomain.com

and not where I am hosting at:
ns1.serverrack.net
ns2.serverrack.net

I also read that having DNS enabled sometimes you open yourself up for security holes/hacking.

Thanks for any info.

Hi again, :)

Simply put, you won't add the MX record on your RaQ as that is definitely part of the DNS service.

If you want to hand mail service for a particular domain,

www.customerdomain.com

and you've used the registrar's DNS to point www.customerdomain.com to your IP, then do the following:

under site settings, in the mail server field, put:

www.customerdomain.com, customerdomain.com

and then in the registrar's DNS control panel, for an MX record, put:

customerdomain.com

with a distance (priority) of 0 (zero).

Your RaQ should then handle mail service for customerdomain.com

Hope this helps,

Brandon

(By the way, which registrar do you use?)

That did it. I also got a fast response from the Cobalt Mailing List. I thought so.. I didn't know you can still add stuff there and not have the dns enabled. It worked and tested. I sent and received email based on mail.domain.com and used my own ISp's smtp.

This is wonderfull. 5 hours a day I should be alright rolling over clients and friend on my own raq instead of a using other hosting companies.

Thanks for the help...
