I just bought my domain name with 000domains.com and i want to sign up with gearhost.com
on step 3 of their registration "domain name" i have a few choices (i'm new so i dont quite know what to do)
I see this thing at first:
Please indicate the primary domain name to be associated with your new hosting service. You may use any domain name with a valid extension. Example: .com, .net, .org, .ca, .co.uk, .se, .lu, and about 500 others. If you do not have a primary domain please leave blank for IP only.

place to write down domain name and after that "(leave blank for IP only)".
do i need to write my domain or leave it blank.

after that i have 3 choices, i know that A is not the right one, it's to sign up a domain with them.

B. Modify/Transfer this domain.(no cost)
GearHost will attempt to modify your domain name with your registrar so that it may be used on our network. If we are unable to modify your domain, we will provide you the information and instructions needed for correct modification. Utlimately, domain modification is the responsibility of the name owner.

C. Do nothing.(no cost)
GearHost will not take any action on your domain name. This option is best for customers who are familiar with domain name modification and A) wish to control the exact timing of domain transfer, or B) for customers who have not yet registered their domain, or C) for customers controlling their own DNS server.
what do i need to choose
thanks

Go ahead and type in your domain name and select option "C". When you get your welcome letter from Gearhost it will contain the nameservers, go back to 000domains.com and update your Nameserver info with them. Wait about 24-48 hours and your domain will be pointing to gearhost....

Yes. C.

You should modify the nameserver at 000domains.com.

The CandyMan,

You would "control" your DNS once you change them - from 000domain.

All you need to do is login in to your accout with 000domain and change the DNS settings so that it points to gearhost. The DNS (primary and secondary) should be sent in welcome mail from GearHost.

Since you have chosen the option C (which is good) meaning you would be altering your DNS (from 000domain) so that it can point to Gearhost and you can go live.

Hope this helps!

Cheers

Hi again Candyman,

Could you please keep us - the forum - informed about your experience with Gearhost (once you are up and live).

I have been very keen on them, but haven't received reply to my email. But i understand since it was weekend and as the earlier post suggests they have been flat out.

I would appreciate if you could let us know about your experience.

Thanks a million!!!! :dunce:

Cheers

The filed should be marked, Modify DNS or Modify Nameservers For This Domain, something to that extent. Gearhost lists their nameservers for the domain gearhost.com as:

Domain servers in listed order:

NS1.CO.GEARHOST.NET 63.123.144.4
NS2.CO.GEARHOST.NET 63.123.144.6

Though this is not necessarily what you'd use, just an example. They will tell you what to use, and it might be the same. For the example above, you should enter

Primary: NS1.CO.GEARHOST.NET
Secondary: NS2.CO.GEARHOST.NET

It will find the IPs for you, no need to enter them (far as I remember with 000domains/OpenSRS registrars)

You ask a question, the answers are unanimous and you still want to know if thats the correct answer.

CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

Not meaning to be rude, but please when you ask, accept the answers more gratiously rather than asking...then saying I thought different....then more answers....then still are you sure.

Candyman-
Just to confirm yes select the option C and modify the DNS records with your domain registrar using our DNS servers. Option B is really only for Network Solution based customers so that we can prepare the email template but soon all this will go away as all new domains registered for the past year and half or so have a login.

If you need any further assistance please email support@gearhost.com. Thanks for all your posts, want some part time remote admin work ;)?

From the list of services provided, it looks as though they use windows.

Ok i signed up with them 3 days ago with my domain name, scooter-posse.com and it's still not working!!

Did you ever get your welcome letter? 3 days is long but if you are in the states, I would try to contact them by phone. They have answered every call I've ever had to make within a couple of rings and will get things straightened out for you right away. If you can't call, then I'd send an e-mail to either their Sales or Support departments, depending if you received that welcome letter.

Good luck...
