Board,

I need your help. I am a new webmaster for my church. I need help with Free Search Engine Submission and Web Site Promotion for my site.

1) Any companies or services you can recommend?
2) Can these services be done for free?
3) Are there any hidden costs or things I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance,
Gary

There are many software can do it , for example submitwolf

but I will suggest you submit your site to some major engine. like yahoo , google ,alex.

Submitwolf just sends your site to a bunch of useless sites. The only real way to get high rankings is to deliver excellent content to your target audience. Consider metatags, alt tags, and keywords earlier on in your text.

Try to post your website on some free classifieds. Your site will then be indexed next time a spider comes to these classifieds. Don't waste your money with engine submission services.

I could always do this for you? But actually, I've got my own websites to look after. Read about "SEO - Search Engine Optimization" on the web. Lot's of material out there. There is no quick solution. It will take time.

Good luck!

The best results by far are accomplished by manual submission. Be sure your content actually uses the keywords you have put in meta tags. Validate your code in W3C validator and use h1, h2, h3, alt and title tags for images etc. For valid meta tags use for example:

http://www.scrubtheweb.com/abs/meta-check.html

Just paste your URL at the bottom of the page and it will validate your basic meta usage for max. meta tag lengths etc.

What I like to do is do is find 10 competitiors websites in my field
i.e

I.e your. topic search engines
you may have found
lycos.com
google.com
altavista
alltheweb

These will most lilkely have lots of backward links

and do http://www.hotbot.com/default.asp?prov=Google&query=link%3Awww.google.com&ps=&loc=searchbox&tab=web
where it says www.google.com replace it with one of your competitors

Then go through the backward links and see if you can submit your websites to these different websites

ost of the time you might have to email the webmaster, and maybe provide a link back

do the same for the other search engines
altavista
http://us.altavista.com/web/results?q=linkdomain%3Awww.google.comt&kgs=0&kls=0

msn
http://search.msn.com/results.asp?q=linkdomain%3Awww.google.com+-domain%3Awww.google.com

yahoo
http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=link%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&ei=UTF-8&fr=sfp&n=20&fl=0&x=wrt

alltheweb
http://www.alltheweb.com/search?cat=web&cs=utf8&q=link%3Awww.google.com&_sb_lang=any

alexa
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/?url=www.google.com

If you get accepted to say 100 different sites, your google rank, will be much higher therefore making it easier for you to obtain a higher
web ranking

also submit your webages to the dmoz directory
hope that helps
