Not my server.. Just thinking to get it. Want someone to test the speed for us before we order it.

I'm getting a stable download rate of 4.5kbps on my 56K which connects at 48.0kbps. And I'm from the UK, so it's a good rate for me.

Very slow..

I'm getting 90kb/s from my home connection - I can download though well above 650kb/s from a lot of servers during the day even...

Very High powered indeed.

This brings me to my question of what are people going to do when cogent goes belly up? I mean I see all these companies offering servers with huge amounts of bandwidth for $99. Cogent is overselling it's avalable bandwidth which degrades network performance. I can't compete with these cogent based providers because I won't go with a company that oversells bandwidth and has my customers boxes lagged. If you want a cheap server like that, more power to you; for me it's about network performance.

I dont know why, it seems to be a bit slow compare to my other cogent provier. The speed I get on the link I posted above is around 100k/sec from burst.net's server. But the speed I get from the other cogent provider is around 250k/sec.

Anyone know the reason?

UUNet DSL Gainesville, FL:
Hops: Who knows, couldn't get past hop 9 which I think links UUNet to Cogent. Probably ~15-20 hops.
Peak - 116KB/s (I average 150KB/s from almost everywhere)
Average - 41.51KB/s
Low - 8.16KB/s
wget: 18:57:08 (41.51 KB/s)

UUNet DS3 Gainesville, FL:
Hops: 18
Peak - 165.56 KB/s
Average - 68.80KB/s
Low - 23.16 KB/s
wget: 18:44:34 (68.80 KB/s)

AT&T DS3 Jacksonville, FL:
Hops: Who knows, couldn't get past hop 14 which I think links AT&T to Cogent. Probably ~20-25 hops.
Peak - 196.85 KB/s (next closest was 167KB/s)
Average - 51.21KB/s
Low - 19.13 KB/s
wget: 19:00:34 (51.21 KB/s)

Bit overkill, eh? Maybe it'll be of some use to someone. :) Weak averages.

I get very jumpy speeds from other cogent locations. I averaged 100K/s from one server(11hops 39ms ping) and 120K/s from another server (8hops 26ms ping), 55K/s from my dsl.

Looks pretty bad if you ask me.

Less than 1k per second steady.

Just to make sure it wasn't my connection I downloaded something from elsewhere halfway through and got 40k/s

Hope that helps....

30 KB/sec steady from a multiple-T1 connection. Then downloaded at 320 KB/sec from a different site to make sure it wasn't my network.
