This brings me to my question of what are people going to do when cogent goes belly up? I mean I see all these companies offering servers with huge amounts of bandwidth for $99. Cogent is overselling it's avalable bandwidth which degrades network performance. I can't compete with these cogent based providers because I won't go with a company that oversells bandwidth and has my customers boxes lagged. If you want a cheap server like that, more power to you; for me it's about network performance. teck 01-27-2002, 12:38 PM It was going way too slow so I just killed wget. downkaos 01-27-2002, 01:08 PM I wget'd from 1 box on our network and 3 off: box on the network: 08:50:11 (58.30 KB/s) - `8mb.zip' saved [8326840/8326840] friends box on uunet backbone: 08:55:17 (51.52 KB/s) - `8mb.zip' saved [8326840/8326840] my box on savvis backbone: 10:56:12 (57.85 KB/s) - `8mb.zip.1' saved [8326840/8326840] friends cogent box, wow we are at the same place :o) 09:58:01 (6.46 MB/s) - `8mb.zip' saved [8326840/8326840] joe52 01-27-2002, 02:28 PM 74 KB/s on a cable modem. The speed I get on the link I posted above is around 100k/sec from burst.net's server. But the speed I get from the other cogent provider is around 250k/sec. Anyone know the reason?
