For instance, with colo accounts, the measurement is taken at the edge of our network just before it hits our border router. On the other hand, with VPS or shared hosting accounts, the measurement is taken on the server. That means that traffic between local servers isn't counted for colocation, but is counted on shared and VPS. I think you'll find that to be pretty typical, but I know there are some places that measure right at the switch port of your server for dedicated and colo thus counting everything, including broadcast traffic (which isn't usually a significant volume). Bandwidth is billed based on the PRTG traffic analysis on the Ethernet Card. |
