any recommendations.
free is best. But am willing to pay a nominal fee for something that will analyze web logs. Could be server or client based. Just can't afford $400 for somethign like Webtrends.
I've used extreme tracking and sitemeter before, but looking for other suggestions.
Thanks!

It's actually pretty simple to setup. Most of the config variables do not have to be set. It will give you decent reports on the defaults. Another pretty good free one is AWStats (http://awstats.sourceforge.net/) .

AWStats is okay, but Webalizer is frankly awful. I would recommend advlogger from www.perlonline.com for tracking website referrers and tracking people through your site and HappyLog from www.axolot.com/happylog for more comprehensive log file analysis. Both are around $30 and there is a free version of advlogger.

I second AWStats. We use it as our primary stats tool.

A few years ago Openwebscope was free, now it's $99. Client based and pretty nice with graphs etc.

also client based, also a little expensive - $100 or so.
As for server side solutions I am still looking for a good solution, while webalizer is pretty ok I agree it looks like ****, and awstats is written in Perl, therefore it might be slow.

I agree webalizer is not the best asthetically, but it does provide good stats, it's fast, and the numbers are pretty reliable. I have found AWstats to be very slow, and it lacks in a lot of the configurablity in comparrison. Though I do like the looks of it a lot better than webalizer.

thanks all. I ended up going with AWstats and like it's interface. Much cleaner than webalizer.
