View Full Version : 2CheckOut is short-sighted

Consider the following and tell me if 2CheckOut is short-sited or do I have unreasonable expectations.

I am completing a configurable shopping cart that will plug-n-play with our content management system. The cart allows for multiple payment gate-ways. I wanted to add a 2CheckOut gateway and actually partially tested the authnet emulation mode with a customers account. The customer has recently gone live and doesn't want to deal with all the test transactions any more (which is not unreasonable). I contacted 2CheckOut and asked if they would provide a "test" environment so that I could complete and certify the gateway interface. Their answer was a single sentence that boiled down to no.

A reasonable estimate is that 120 of my customers will be using this cart. Many do not have a gateway, and many will not do enough business to get a full-fledged merchant account. Their choices will likely be between paypal and 2CheckOut. I can't believe that 2CheckOut wouldn't want to be a payment option for this.

Any thoughts?

Bob

if you use 2checkout you can set your account to "demo mode" so you can test the transactions

This is true, but would require that I obtain a 2CheckOut account. I'm not all that opposed to the $49.00 fee, but hate expose all my financial info to them just to certify a shopping cart. I know a lot of folks live and die by 2CheckOut but it is not a gateway I would use for myself.

I used them for a year, and the impression I got was they were a very small company that has experienced a lot of growth pains. They had some issues, but overall its a very solid system. If they are as small as they seem, I think its reasonable that they wouldn't want to provide test accounts. They don't need another thing on their plate to worry about when they're busting their butts to process thousands of transactions and check each of them for fraud every day. If you can afford the $49, I wouldn't worry about exposing your financial info to them...its much less extensive than getting a merchant account.
