PERL SCRIPTOR 01-26-2002, 08:12 PM I'm running 6.0 on XP Pro and it works great. Not a single problem to date. Go for it if you need it for some reason but if 5.5 is giving you everything you need, then why upgrade? MGCJerry 01-26-2002, 08:20 PM I'm still using IE 5.0 and havent had any probs with it on Win2k Pro. I agree, Why "fix" it, if it isn't broke? DigitalXWeb 01-26-2002, 09:02 PM Is there a Linux flavour yet?? :) :) JK I agree with the above posts if 5.x is working fine no reason to upgrade to 6. Justin S 01-26-2002, 09:07 PM In my opinion, IE6 is just a bloated version of IE5/5.5. Sure, there are a few more features and better option control, but they aren't anything that really makes the browser better. Shawn (GEcom) 01-26-2002, 10:00 PM Using IE 6.0 on Win2K, and I am very happy. Its one of Microsoft's "better" products. (I'm not a big fan of MS) ... Lawrence 01-26-2002, 10:15 PM I'm running IE6 on Windows 2000. No problems with it as such, but each new browser window that it loads freezes for about 5 seconds before proceeding, and javascript popups can take up to 10 seconds to come up sometimes. Outlook Express also freezes for a few seconds each time it's loaded. I'm not sure what causes it, or whether it's something on my system rather than a problem with IE6, but it can get very frustrating. I didn't have these problems with IE5, so I'm considering downgrading. Matt Lightner 01-26-2002, 11:10 PM I've been running XP Pro and IE 6.0 on two computers for quite a while and have had no problems aside from the fact that ICQ keeps resetting my homepage. allmark 01-27-2002, 12:28 AM Originally posted by Site5-Matt ICQ keeps resetting my homepage. don't that just piss you off :( Matt Lightner 01-27-2002, 12:34 AM Originally posted by allmark don't that just piss you off :( To no end. What happened was I upgraded to 2001b, and it was just the worst piece of software I had ever used. So I went and re-downloaded the old version, 2000b, and installed that. Apparently in the newer builds of that version they removed the ability to make the resetting of home pages optional (or they have hidden it really well... because I've spent at least an hour looking for it). Oh well... you get what you pay for I suppose. :D TheGAME1264 01-27-2002, 02:56 AM My rule on software upgrades, particularly as it pertains to Microsquash, is to upgrade no matter what. Even though the new features in whatever software I'm upgrading generally require more resource (more features and even more bloated programming code), more development time and resources will be spent improving/debugging the newer product than the older product (e.g. more time will be spent performing security patches/bug fixes/whatnot for IE 6.0 than for earlier versions). As far as ICQ is concerned, it's free software. It's not that I have a problem with freeware: it's just that less time and resource is going to be spent developing it than if it were shareware/paid software. For those of you who will counter that IE is free software, I don't consider this to be the case since IE is "bundled" with Windows as part of Microsquash's whole proprietary end-to-end take-over-the-world-and-possibly-six-other-planets-to-be-named-later software solution. Again...just a thought. AL-Benjamin 01-27-2002, 12:13 PM well thanks for all that guys. still very confused but i think i will stick to what i have. not perfect but hey. akashik 01-27-2002, 12:29 PM IE6 is fine. I upgraded my desktop to it months ago, and the laptop only last week. It's a little bulky on the 366mhz laptop, but nothing I'd complain about. If you do upgrade, be sure to turn off the image toolbar, and auto resizing... Once those two annoyances are gone, it's a nice browser. Greg Moore AL-Benjamin 01-27-2002, 06:11 PM just downloaded it onto my laptop. doesn't seem to be mych different! |
