I have a self-managed, dedicated server at AIT. I would like to be able to monitor the bandwidth my server, as a whole, has used. AIT provided a usage graph that is supposed to provide this information, but it does not seem to be providing accurate information, unless I do not understand how to use it.
Does anyone here with an AIT server use the AIT bandwidth graphs? Do they work for you?
And, could anyone suggest something to run on my server that would provide accurate information on bandwidth?
Thanks.

MRTG or RTG would work for you.

I am using MRTG, however, it does not provide information on total bandwidth used, unless this is a configuration option.
Right now, for traffic, it gives "Traffic Analysis for eth0", which shows average usage graphs (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly).
I wanted somthing to say very simply that I used XXX GB of bandwidth for this month.

EEEK! did someone say ait? run run run away as fast as you can. They'll most likely overstate your bandwidth usage just so they can overcharge you.

As long as I know you have to build custome firewall to filter all you traffic so that it can be measured. Also note that no one actually going to build on their server to get correct BW usage.
Usually it's done by router not your box.
The probability and mathmatic work out in most case and MRTG should be able give you almost correct BW usage if you set up correctly.
Is AIT better now? I heard too many horror story about them and would like to know.

You could try BWbar (http://www.mythica.org/bwbar/) . It's a handy little script that works nicely alongside MRTG. It'll tell you current usage and total for the month.
