Umm this is old news, and AOL flat out denied that they were in talks.

I got news from a friend that works for AOL that they decided not to buy RedHat, but yes that is slightly old news.

Just out of curiosity, what does everyone have against this?

What made you feel someone is against it? We just said it was an old news.

I personally thought it would be great for RH.

I'm against AOL buying RedHat for many reasons... too many reasons to devote my time here to list. In short, RedHat Linux would eventually no longer be freely distributed and AOL will attempt to dominate the OS market as they have monopolized the ISP market if they were to aquire RedHat.

RedHat is only one Linux distribution.. and, in my opinion, not the best. Even though at this point it's unlikely AOL will buy RH, I have no objections. It's not like they're buying the entire Linux operating system here.

I would be interested in reading some arguments for the AOL aquisition of Red Hat....

RedHat is a nice company to work for, well that's what I think, those people are really enjoying their works :). I think that would change when AOL bought them. Take a look at Netscape, some of their best engineers left Netscape after acquired by AOL (Marc Andreessen, Jamie Zawinsky, John Giannandrea). And Alan Cox himself thinks it is an insult when people think he would stay at RedHat when AOL bought them (Alan Cox is the second most important person behind Linux kernel).
