It IS an old news. JMolina 01-26-2002, 03:54 AM I got news from a friend that works for AOL that they decided not to buy RedHat, but yes that is slightly old news. serve-you 01-26-2002, 03:55 AM Who knows. For all we know, m$ is in talks to buy RH  -Dan labzone 01-26-2002, 03:57 AM "AOL buying (Red Hat) seems unlikely, in our view," But we think there could be a strategic partnership/customer deal brewing" Source: Merrill Lynch analyst Peter Von Schilling News.com Updated Article: http://news.com.com/2100-1001-819578.html?legacy=cnet&tag=pt.msnbc.feed..ne_8551983 serve-you 01-26-2002, 04:00 AM Originally posted by labzone "AOL buying (Red Hat) seems unlikely, in our view," But we think there could be a strategic partnership/customer deal brewing" That was a stock analyst who made that statement! -Dan HRBrendan 01-26-2002, 04:25 AM Just out of curiosity, what does everyone have against this? -Brendan ebird 01-26-2002, 04:29 AM Originally posted by HRBrendan Just out of curiosity, what does everyone have against this? -Brendan What made you feel someone is against it? We just said it was an old news. serve-you 01-26-2002, 04:43 AM I personally thought it would be great for RH. -Dan labzone 01-26-2002, 05:03 AM I'm against AOL buying RedHat for many reasons... too many reasons to devote my time here to list. In short, RedHat Linux would eventually no longer be freely distributed and AOL will attempt to dominate the OS market as they have monopolized the ISP market if they were to aquire RedHat. cimshimy 01-26-2002, 05:13 AM RedHat is only one Linux distribution.. and, in my opinion, not the best. Even though at this point it's unlikely AOL will buy RH, I have no objections. It's not like they're buying the entire Linux operating system here. Andrew labzone 01-26-2002, 05:37 AM I would be interested in reading some arguments for the AOL aquisition of Red Hat.... priyadi 01-26-2002, 09:08 AM Originally posted by HRBrendan Just out of curiosity, what does everyone have against this? -Brendan RedHat is a nice company to work for, well that's what I think, those people are really enjoying their works :). I think that would change when AOL bought them. Take a look at Netscape, some of their best engineers left Netscape after acquired by AOL (Marc Andreessen, Jamie Zawinsky, John Giannandrea). And Alan Cox himself thinks it is an insult when people think he would stay at RedHat when AOL bought them (Alan Cox is the second most important person behind Linux kernel). terrastudios 01-28-2002, 05:12 PM Eak!!! LOL i nearly had a heart attack AOLHat, RedAOL eak!!! well anything to do with Aol really aint good :P and Redhat 7.2 is extremeley coool :D Anywayz, Regards, Matt Brocklehurst, TerraStudios.co.uk |
