A lot of websites have little icons next to navigational text on their sites. For example, http://www.kayako.com/ has 4 icons next to each major section of their site. Godaddy.com has them on the top links on their site.

Is there a place where these types of icons can be purchased or downloaded for free? I'm assuming graphic artists are mostly getting these from a stock library somewhere.

Well, the particular icons used on (and in their products) Kayako's site are made by a guy named Everaldo Coehlo (http://www.everaldo.com). They are part of a set of icons called Crystal that was originally made for the KDE project.

Before to use them I suggest you to read carefully license conditions. Not sure if they can be used in commercial projects.
