We will be extending the offer past January 25, 2002. But there is a limit to the amount of servers we can colocate at this price.

Limit one server per client at the special price.

Thanks,

cololoco

Did I read your website correctly? You are connected to @Work's Dual 2.5Gbps national fiber optic network by a dedicated T1? Do you have any other lines other than this T1? What happens if this T1 goes down? Do you have plans to expand your connections in the near future?

We currently have just the T1 . This T1 line has been in service for almost 1 year with no significant problems.

We do plan on upgrading when the need arises. At this time we have more than enough bandwidth for our needs.

If the T1 goes down, we go down. This has happened once for a short period of time approximately 1 month after the installation. I understand this is a concern to many people, but no one can guarantee 100% uptime. Our uptime is in the 99%, which seems to be the industry standard. Even with redundancy, if someone takes out the telephone pole down the street from a DataCenter, it would go down.

The average bandwidth usage on our T1 is about 350Kbps, and has a range from 200Kbps - 700Kbps, so there is plenty of bandwidth left.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!

Thanks,

Telephone pole???

Um first of all you can insure redundancy, you can have 2 seperate fiber runs running into each side of the buidling on a ring architecture, not sure why your talking about telephone poles?

Don't put all your eggs into one basket. Use two or more completely seperate underground or above-ground lines to bring in more connectivity. 10 providers riding into the data center on one line is pretty dangerous, even if it's under ground. One worker cutting into the wrong line and all 10 of your connections are down.

There may be plenty now, but what if your customers want more bandwidth, or what if they want burstability of some kind? Filling up a T1 to capacity with no other routes can lead to big problems (packet loss being one of the biggest). What plans do you have for expanding? Do you plan on expanding by getting more T1s, or are you considering a T3/DS3?

Wonder what type of capital they would need to upgrade? Seems like they would need a bunch of customers...

Best wishes for success to you cololoco...

Those are all valid concerns. We are a couple of guys with a small Datacenter. We have a few customers who host hundreds of websites on their servers. We do not pretend to offer OC3, OC12, DS3, or any other connection besides our T1.

Unfortunately, here in Connecticut, we pay quite a bit for our little T1, so upgrading at this point is not an option. Especially with a $20,000/month price tag for a DS3. A partial DS3 with 6Mbps pipe would cost us $7,000/month. That makes many of the suggestions posted here way out of our budget. These are suggestions that would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to implement in our market.

We all have fulltime jobs besides the DC and take turns covering the various hours of the day. We have had a 99% uptime since we opened in March of 2001. Our exisitng customers are quite happy with the service they receive (would be happy to provide references).

We are offering this special at a great price point, that we believe is consistent with the services we offer.

We do not recommend our services for people who absolutely, positively need to host mission critical sites. We do recommend our service for anyone who would be happy with an inexpensive colocation that has a consistent history of uptime.

Thank you all,
