...CNBC just confirmed it was a scuicide. I really hope this doesn't end up reaching the White House (Bush or Cheney), that would really not be good for the economy or country right now.

It was an al Qaida pretzel, specially designed to enlarge when swallowed by George W. Bush. The improper chewing story is a coverup. "They" don't want you to know the truth.

Are you implying that Bush or Cheney would kill themselves because the VC of Enron did?

You are really whacked on this one.

Neither Bush nor Cheney had anything to do with Enron deceiving their employees and stockholders and then bankrupting their business.

Why would they even care - other than to have sympathy for the families and employees effected.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm implying, I'm afraid the President and the Vice Presint might kill themselves. Isn't that the next logical thing to happen?

Man...you've got a nutty way of interpretting things. I was talking about how much influence peddling was going on, if any. Cheney refuses to release documents related to his meetings with the Enron people in formulating energy policy. I'm not so sure he should, might set a bad precident if it really is just a fishing expidition. But, I was just saying that I'm hoping that there is no "there" there.

I had to ask. We all seem to use the language differently...

I don't think that anything Cheney releases will have any impact on the way the liberal press interprets the lack of influence peddling that resulted in Enron going out of business. The way that they have chosen to make this "pre-policy discussion" data available only to the oversight committee is the right way to handle this. The press does not need access to these working documents in order for a determination to be made as to whether there was any wrong doing.

The real focus here needs to be on the criminal handling of the Enron 401k accounts and obvious insider trading that went on within the corporation.

Cheney did not meet privately with Enron and adopt any energy policy based on Enron discussions. The policy meetings were attended by the leading energy companies in the country - 30+ people in attendance - and Enron was the #1 energy broker in the country at the time. Not involving the largest energy broker in discussion about the potential changes in energy policy would have been irresponsible. Many of the meetings that Cheney was supposed to be in were attended only by his staff working on the policy draft documents. The reporting on this is irresponsible at best.

The press and the Democrats (is that redundant?) will never stop looking for scandal in Washington - particularly where the Republicans are concerned. They have been conditioned for the last 8 year administration to believe nothing that comes out of the Whitehouse, and it will take years of truth to repair that impression - if it's even possible to do so.

Those who want publically funded, socialist elections, where everyone gets $1.32 to fund their campaign, with no private money, personal money or corporate money, will use this to push for campaign finance reform.

Those who believe that private businesses and individuals are welcome to participate in funding campaigns for their candidates of choice will point to Enron's ultimate failure as an example of where influence was obviously not peddled - as Enron went out of business after all.

Somewhere in the middle is where we need to be; where anyone who is caught selling favors, pardons, satellite guidance systems, or making policy for money from the Whitehouse or Capitol Hill is impeached, censored, and thrown out of office - with jail time as appropriate.

We have laws that prohibit these behaviors today. We need to enforce them, and the behavior will be mitigated. We choose to ignore them and believe it's all politics as usual. That behavior will make it policy as usual.
