View Full Version : unmetered
addict3d 10-15-2004, 09:15 PM In short.
250$-270$ Budget
I need 20mbit unmetered.
I saw server matrix offer
and its probably what i'll take in the end.
questions are:
1) Does anyone use their 20mbit unmetered service. is it acutally stable and flawless, and i really get the 20mbit incase i'll need 1-2mb/s perm the entire month?
2) Any other suggestions except this one.
15-20mbit unmetered within that budget?
Thanks.
turbosvs 10-15-2004, 09:17 PM I think you will not get 20 Mbps unmetered for just $250, i never used them try to search on forum about servermatrix to see.
Elix Media 10-15-2004, 10:26 PM They are overselling their lines. However, I don't think it is hurting them.

Many many people reported (ab)using their unmetered 20mbits 24/7 without any problems.. it is oversold but SM shows clients graphs of total usage so you can be sure the lines are not congested.
i use the full 20mbps :)
and if you look at their badnwith graphs it looks like there only using 500mbps out of their 2gbps (last time i checked)
and no i can't recomend anywere else that gives 20mbps for the same price :)
dkitchen 10-16-2004, 07:53 AM Hi,
Bandwidth is obviously oversold because if every server took the 100mbit port its on and maxed out at once the bandwidth usage would be way over what they actually have. They seem to have quite a solid network though from what I've seen.
Being in the UK though, i'd prefer someone who took NAC, Peer1, or HE.net bandwidth as they all have their own line back from London meaning that you pretty much follow their network all the way, does take a considerable amount off ping times.

secureserver 10-16-2004, 08:34 AM Accordinng to the mrtg graphs they have enough free CogentCo bandwidth, so you probably will be able to use all the 20Mbit 24/7.
You can check FDCServers.Net but note that there is difference between their standard Unmetered package and Dedicated bandwidth package.
They just claimed to connect 16Gbit Level3 backbone, and you won't find anywhere else unmetered Level3 bandwidth - anywhere else I looked it's just cheap CogentCo bandwidth that is offered.
kgp43 10-16-2004, 08:42 AM I have been using theire 20Mbit server to my image hosting sites (ALOT of hits). They are working perfect
We are using two 20Mbit ServerMatrix servers. No problems here and performance (up & down) is just great.
Latic 10-16-2004, 09:32 AM I'd recommend FDC. i think on the 100mb/s unmetered plan you can push upto about 30mb/s without them minding too much.
Dont quote me on that tho ;)

I was pushing 16~18mbits and then they capped my box to 10mbits. Look at their TOS, especially at the bottom.
dowxp 10-16-2004, 12:22 PM another 20m user here. been with them for 1.5 months. speeds aren't insane, but easily bursts up to 20m with multiple connections.

Yes but if your limited at the port to 20mbit then you won't ever get to 100 mbit.
Guspaz 10-17-2004, 05:22 PM Every single datacenter oversells. Think about it, if they didn't oversell, and sold 20,000 100mbit servers (as some like SM or EV1 have), they'd need 2 million megabits. That's 2000 gigabit. Hell you might as well call it 2 terrabits. If you just use Cogent's price as a figure, that'd cost sixty million dollars per month.
Anyhow, fact is, if you look at ServerMatrix's Cogent bandwidth graphs, while they are extremely oversold, they still have tons of capacity. Their cogent lines are at about 40% capacity, despite being so oversold. Obviously they know what they're doing, and performance is better for it.
KarlZimmer 10-17-2004, 05:27 PM For that price range that's about all you can get, the SM deal. For the price is a great setup.
patriotcow 10-17-2004, 06:09 PM Servermatrix is great and I have the matrixplus server which is unmetred. Go for it:D
