I host a site for free, and im considering placing an advertiser banner on it like a google one or clicksor. The site gets over 1,000,000 visitors a month.
I personally believe id get more money from hosting the site for free by putting a google banner up, than i would by putting my own banner up to my site.
Anyone have any suggestions for advertising programs? Any success stories?

Along that line of thinking... just curious about the general consensus regarding advertising CPM rates:

What would be the general range of pricing to charge per CPM for advertising impressions? For a site with 1,000,000 impressions or more per month? ($5 per CPM, $10 per CPM, ???)

Assume the ability to provide reporting and tracking capabilities to advertisers (using PHPadsnew or some other tracking system).

Not necessarily. There has to be a general range of pricing for CPM advertising, period. Obviously there is a bell curve approach that could be taken into account, where some sites would garner much higher CPM rates than others at the lowest point of the curve. I'm sure I am not the only one interested in determining what the middle of that range would be. For me, it's all about sanity-checking.

For example, who is going to pay $50 per CPM if they can get comparable advertising with a similar site for $20 per CPM or less? I've seen much lower rates than that example, so where is the middle of the spectrum or what is a fair going-rate range?

You'll make very good money adding google ads on there but just because you are hosting the site for free does that mean you can advertise on some elses site?
