View Full Version : Acsdatanet
RH Robert 01-24-2002, 02:15 PM Anyone have a status on ACSDataNet? All 5 of my colo boxes are down. Constant busy signal on the support line. Left a message on Clints cell, but no return call. Anyone else having issues at this time or is it just me?
He mentioned a new connection coming in and a switch was going to be made, I hoped for some notice before this was done tho.
clocker1996 01-24-2002, 04:24 PM all 5
ouch
good thing i didn't go with acs a month or two back
good luck
Synergy 01-24-2002, 04:26 PM Maybe they are experiencing network problems and all support lines are held up by clients?
RH Robert 01-24-2002, 09:42 PM It couldn't be his whole network, no one else has responded to being down. We have left messages at work, on his cell, and with his wife. Also email and still no response from ACSData. It's now been over 12 hrs. I guess I will call Pajo and see if they know what's up. They are across the hall so they may know...here is hoping
EDIT> There are some other boxes down also.. My complaint is no response or info regarding this. No info posted on his page, no place to find anything out....
jarrod 01-25-2002, 04:01 PM My server is also not currently responding. It was successfully switched to the new backbone and new ip addresses and was fine for a couple days, but as of 4:00am CST this morning it went down and is still not up. I sent a rather long email just asking for the reason why it was down and any idea when it will be back up. I got a rather immediate response back of 'I will have a tech check the server" which frustrates me slightly since I kinda expected an explanation. Nothing else nor is the server online yet. Will update when I learn more...
greg71 01-25-2002, 04:04 PM We too are with ACS, and our server is down - he said that its because SPAM was being sent out from our server.
Personally we've had a bad experience with Clint and ACS and we are trying to move ASAP.
It took him several months to setu us up, with him pretending to be other people. We threatened him with the law and he gave in. Just a warning to others and my 2cence.
(PS. My vga card has just screwed so I cant see a single thing I'm writing. Sorry if U'm not making much sense.
RH Robert 01-25-2002, 04:43 PM Our owner received this message from Clint a few minutes ago:
"When Pajo heard we were getting a new line, they cut our access." Well excuse the hell out of me, don't you think you should let your customers know! 3 days down and now you get around to answering... He also said the line was just installed today....hmmm, but according to a previous post it was already installed... I really don't know what to think...yes I do..But I won't discuss that here :D
Abu Mami 01-26-2002, 01:47 PM I too went through a particularly vexing experience the last few days. I've been a big supporter of Clint, and I've been VERY happy with ACSDatanet. It seems that maybe this move to a new provider was too big a task for him. I feel bad for him, but of course I've got my own interests. We'll see how it goes from now. Everything is working fine at this point - in fact, it seems like my sites are even faster than before (no proof, it just seems that way). If he continues with the level of support that I enjoyed before this little episode, I'll be happy enough. After all, the price is definitely right, the speed is great, and the support is (was?) great.
I've been following the discussions here at WHT for quite some time. I researched ded servers before I signed up with ACSDatanet and I continue to follow the discussions. Almost all hosting companies have their share of hiccups. I was definitely not happy about the last few days, but what am I going to do? Switch to another service and then find out what problems they have? I'll stick with Clint for now.
jarrod 01-26-2002, 02:04 PM I completely agree with you, up to this point it has been pretty good. But I am very frustrated about the last couple days. I was just told after 3 emails being sent to him that my server is online, which in fast it is still not. I am undecided if I will still switch if it comes back online soon. I won't tolerate being ignored like I was.
I worked at an ISP and I am really trying hard not to be one of those customers that calls and emails all the time, but I have had to be one in the past month due to server and billing problems and that bugs me. Oh well, I am getting responses now so hopefully it will improve.

I agree that he could have been a bit more responsive, but then he would have got even further behind. He probably should have set up a mailing list and made sure that everyone got updated - that would have saved him a lot of headaches (from all of us users trying to email and call him). Hopefully he'll learn from this and get the mailing list set up. (Maybe I'll mention it to him in my next email).
I am undecided if I will still switch if it comes back online soon. It will take a short time for the DNS to propagate. You can check to see if everything's working by using one of your IP numbers (that hasn't been assigned to named servers) and the site name. Like this....
http://208.179.xx.yy/yoursitename/index.html
(make sure you include the file name since Apache won't know what to do with it since it's not a named server) This way you can at least see that the box is working properly and that the sites are "up". Then all you have to do is wait for the DNS propagation.
Good luck. I hope it all works out OK for you. I'm cooking with gas again, and as I mentioned earlier, it seems even faster than before.
jarrod 01-26-2002, 05:39 PM I went through the whole ip change 4 days ago. This recent downtime was apparently caused by a faulty power supply. It is back online now.
nethead 01-27-2002, 06:16 AM Clint has yet to respond to email or phone messages, and my account is still down. He gave me a new IP address of 66.101.96.211
but neither the IP or any of the domains work. I'm at a loss, and am very close to going with rackshack.com, but it would be a lot of effort to move all my domains there and I'd have to pay a setup fee and loose my setup fee from acsdata.
Is everyone else back up? I'm not sure what to do here.
jarrod 01-27-2002, 04:07 PM nethead, my server was restored after about 28 hours of downtime. Hope you get a response or the server comes back online soon, I know how frustrating it is to not get a response.
I am strongly debating moving to cagedtornado.com, its cheaper #1 and I don't like being ignored which I was for some time, and before this incident I have had several emails/phone calls go unanswered. :kaioken:
nethead 01-29-2002, 08:52 AM After over 10 days of downtime and almost as long with no response to email or phone inquiries, my server is back up. I was last told " It appears that the power supply was faulty. It is being replaced." which is what a poster above was also told.
At this point the dns must be reset by Clint for many of my domains.
The acsdatanet price is fine - one of the best, but my research forced me to discover better options which I now must seriously consider.
RH Robert 01-29-2002, 12:04 PM Servers are all back online, no explanation, just an email saying they are back up, and here are some different IP's. We also have been forced to make other choices, and I just hope the connection stays long enough to get a dump of all the sites. We will be having our boxes shipped back. Ok I understand he is a busy man and a lot of "power supplies" have failed. Whatever. But to have no explanation after this downtime? Inexcusable. I hope that those of you who are satisfied with the level of service and support that Clint offers remain so in the future.
jarrod 01-29-2002, 12:18 PM I agree, no explanation is inexcusable. However, lying to customers about supposed bad power supplies is deplorable and unforgivable. That pretty much sealed the deal on deciding my next course of action, whether to switch providers or not.
