Though I am satisfied with the service, speed, options, etc. from my current host (http://www.primenethosting.com), they do not offer subdomains, which I would love to have.

After researching tons of hosts, I narrowed it down to hostrocket.com, phpwebhosting.com and addr.com. I took addr.com off the list due to the myriad poor reviews I've seen and phpwebhosting.com also appears to have problems. I'll say this about phpwebhosting.com, though, most complaints seem to be about the whole 'unmetered' thing - I know there is no such thing as unlimited and I don't really need that, anyway.

In any case, I think I would like to go with hostrocket (not happy about the setup fee, though). Does anyone have any comments or advice about this company (or any others that are similar)?

Thanks.

From what I have heard they are great. Have nice prices too.

If you do a search of this forum you'll find enough HostRocket threads to last you a life time ;)

Generally speaking, apart from some downtime outages, they are very good and recommended by quite a few of the forum members.

Should I be worried about the prospect of downtime? They do have a guarantee so I'm assuming something would be done to help me out in that situation.
Thanks for the info above :)

Guarantees about downtime aren't worth the paper they aren't written on.

Do the search BC suggested... lol.

HostingMatters.com is the best I have found so far..

Although I heard that Cedant.com is very good and the same thing with catalog.com.

I continue to be very impressed with http://hostmatters.com/ -- and if you know what a bear I am about reliability and support, the fact that I'd say that is indeed high praise.

Annette and Stephanie are able, highly knowledgeable, and above all, prompt, courteous, and genuinely helpful.

Even on support questions I have plainly marked [Very Low Priority] I believe the longest I have ever waited for reply is about an hour or so -- and generally less.

Perhaps still more telling, when I have asked for special assistance concerning subdomains, Perl mods, and other matters most hosts dodge, they've been back to me in a flash with a very clear "can-do & will-do" attitude.

I recommend them.

You may want to consider webauthorities.com as well. They offer subdomains as well.
