Hi people!
been a constant reader and sporadic poster here at WHT for a few years now
this site proved invaluable a few years ago when we needed to move from a bad situation with MCHost, it was through the forum i found a little gem of a shared hosting company ... httpme

Anyway, 2 years on we have outgrown our account and are now looking to move to the "scary" world of dedicated or managed or semi managed hosting

I have good working knowledge of WHM and Cpanel having used them for 3 years in shared hosting environment... but thats where my experience ends. Im basically a web devleoper marketer by trade, the hosting ive been forced to learn through neccessity to host the work we produce ...

So... i have no real knowledge of a dedicated server and exactly whats involved other than it needs to setup, secured and updated with the latest critical patches, finetuned etc

I dont have any idea how to do these things...

We currently have about 70 hosting clients, 98% doing minimal traffic. I am happy to leave most where they are and use the dedicated for new accounts.. and a couple of larger websites we are building.

Also i want to point one of the sites that is doing most of the bandwidth to the new server.. the main domain needs to stay where it is but the directory.domain.com needs to be pointed to the new server where a rather large mysql database is required....

So i guess my question is (after that long ramble) where does everyine suggest i should be looking for a solution, seems theres a real gap between shared hosting and true dedicated, what about in between ?

If there are any hosts who can provide reliable fast access with some hand holding at first and some ongoing management then id be happy to be pmed or emailed at kym at nextwave dot com dot au - to look at your track record

machine specs something like:

2.4 - 3 GHZ CPU
80GB SATA/SCSI HDD
1 GB DDR RAM
500-1000GB transfer per month with the ability to slide up to a higher volume plan preferqably instead of being hit with a ful per GB charge if we go over...

Before somebofy directs me to, I did fill out the HOST QUOTE but havent heard a peep from anyone ...

i know im small fry but this is proving to be complex and meanwhile we are going to go over our bandwidth this month so need to move...

Thank you very much for your time if you got this far and I am looking forward to seeing some responses!

Unfortunately, you aren't allowed to post requests here. If you got no response to your HOST QUOTE, then maybe check out the dedicated server offers forum. Not getting a response doesn't mean you are allowed to bypass forum rules and post a request anyway.

I would think if you were going from a shared environment, you might want to try an "in-between" step, in using a VPS. My experience with VPS's (limited to ServInt (http://www.servint.net/) has been that they are generally fully managed and a good stepping stone before getting your own server. I recently referred a friend who had outgrown his shared hosting plan to a VPS and it worked quite well. I am sure in another 8-10 months he will need to go dedicated and at that time, he will have enough knowledge under his belt to manage his own server.

Just my .02
