Counter Hack: a step by step guide to computer attacks and effective defences
I just read this book by Skoudis. I recommend it to any newbie to intermediate. It tells you almost all you need to know about what hacking tools and methods are used. Gives you a step by step guide to hack (probably a bit too much detail.. like we don't need to know that if you press b in a THCscan, u save 5 secs each time) but most importantly, tells you what to do against it.
