Getting another server and we'll do the servers+switch+data pipe thingy.

Need some suggestions on a managed switch (8-port is fine for now, trying to keep cost low). Should be able to handle at least two vlans and also to define data transfer rate per port.

I have seen the Milan MIL-SM800 (http://www.milan.com/switches/sm800.html) , retails for about $450, is this in the ballpark for this type of switch?

Also, any tips for useful features I should look for would be appreciated.

I didn't know they made 8 port managed switches. That price seems pretty especially if you compare it to a comparable DLINK or SMC model.

http://www.smc.com/index.cfm?action=products_show_description&productCode=SMC6924M

Both of which are more expensive (although cheaper in terms of per-port pricing).

If you check ebay you can grab a managed switch for a few hundred.
