Before I begin, please note that I'm more of a webdeveloper and my knowlegde of hosting is very basic (althrough growing, thanks to this site!) :agree:

I started with this company with a contract to build some basic things (CMS, messageboard/chatroom, customer service knowledgebase, etc).
In my last thread, I mentioned needing hosting for the sales and distrubution system, but I just learnt that it will be a hosted ASP solution.
(in short, i don't have to worry about that)

Regardless, we've been having problems with our current shared hosting account (server speed, inability to host mutliple domains on the same account, inability change the name of the domain hosted on our account, slow databases hosted on several servers, I can write a long list!) Well after all of my ranting they've finally decided to go with a better solution.

Someone suggested a dedicated server or virtual private server might be a better option. Also, the company C.O.O. just bought a new Enpower service for the office, but i'm skeptical because this will also be hosting apps on the local LAN. So I'm here asking you webhosting gurus for your opinions. I'm leaning toward the dedicated server scenario, seeing as this will host mission critcal data, but I'm looking for input.

Please bear in mind that the company is young and doesn't currently have the resources for a tech admin department and money is a consideration.

What should I look for? Configs/software? I think CPanel is very convenient. And finally what do these things run?

You're input would be greatly appreciated. I can always use a personal recommendation. Thanks.

If you are really serious about getting a powerful solution, go with dedicated. In my opinion, VPS will not serve your purpose. Check out

for comparing VPS with dedicated.

I also advice you dedicated server for that purpose.

Reading your requirements I would probably push for the managed dedicated solution. IF you budget about $250/mo+ for a managed server I think you should do well
