I upgraded Mandrake 8.1 but now my screen resolution is 800X600, I want to change that to 1024X760 or whatever the next level up is. My question is how do I do that, and is there anyway I can do it through Gnome or KDE without going through the install process again?

Try configuration -> other -> mandrake control center -> hardware -> display

mkaufman

Go to the console and type "Xconfigurator"

I wont let me use Mandrake Control Center!!

I enter my root password as it tells me to, and then nothing!! The same thing used to happen with my 8.0 system too. I just figured it as s bug in the OS.

I then tried to load up into KDE as root, but that didn't work because dcopserver wasn't working, I then su to root, and tried to run dcopserver, but that didn't work because the system couldn't create some configuration file in the /root/ directory. So now I'm stuck, unable to run any of the control center utilites except webmin and linuxconf, and my resolution is stuck.

I'm sorry to hear that, but my system here is doing fine. You might want to reinstall everything, I think there's something not quite right on your system, and I don't know what it is. It might be waste of time trying to find it.
