I think I'm gonna have to jump on this one. Isn't this the one everyone was begging for last thread. I believe it is. Probably gonna wait till Fri/Sat to make the move.

I have a 20Mbps unlimited server but it's just not cutting the mustard. It lets you download say 230KB/sec but it flucuates like crazy from say 100KB then 150KB then 200KB. On my 100Mbps server I can download 600KB/sec and no flucuation. So cogent is cogent. If I need more bandwidth I'll just get another server simple as that.

I was waiting for anything special this monday but pretty ordinary offer, i must say. No raid, no 3rd disk free. I am disappointed. Could have given more number of packages to choose from.

is this special with 100mb port?

Hmmm, I went to their website and it's down, now isn't that ironic. And I'm in Dallas.

Its working for me jwebby, from Belgium and all my servers over there are up.

That's odd, I'm not even 20 miles away from their dc. Maybe a router or something or my internet connection, but ServerMatrix works.

Don't want to troll the thread since I would love to have a server at TP but as theavdhesh said I really expected a Raid offer.. it's a while since people here are asking for it.. :-)

This is basically their no-setup fee special where you do not have to pay the one-time setup fee $199. The monthly fee is just as always -- I don't think the server specs changes at all from their regular offering.

Same, I was looking for a RAID option as well... Oh well, I'm going to wait till this Wednesday and if nothing comes up I'm grabbing 3 servers somewhere else.. the waiting has just been too long. :D

You're saving a $199 setup fee, what more do you want from them? ;) I think that's a pretty good deal.

theplanet.com seems to be down for me

Raid is good because if your disk fails you won't go offline... then you can change the broken disk and you're happy :)
They are not a substitute to backup (for example in case of cracker intrusion or you make a mistake and delete a folder...) but they are quite useful to have high availability..

I talked to them and they say they are hunting it down as only 1% can't access it. It has been down for me now for several days! This is really making them look bad in my book.

IMO you really shouldn't judge them for a temporary outage on only one of their sites. Give them a chance. :)

I've been a customer of ThePlanet since Nov. 2003 and am quite satisfied. I'm much greatful for their efforts to strengthen their support team and build more datacenters and increase their backbone connections all for the better. They are #1 in my book. :)

I realize your point, and I know they are a top notch company, which is why I would have expected the difficult problem to be fixed in a reasonable amount of time. Even with this I will still be getting a server from them. They are definately one of the best companies out there.

I always have a hard time in accessing theplanet.com website both from Mozilla and IE. The page just stalled or half-loaded. Never have problem accessing ServerMatrix though.
