View Full Version : Cheap reliable adult host...

I am looking for a very very cheap adult host. I don't need a lot of space (50-100 MB) nor do I need a lot of bandwidth (2-4 Gig to be safe although I'm pretty sure I'll only use 1Gig a month or less) I want to host a few mature text files and artwork that I don't feel are appropriate in regards to the ToS of most regular webhosts, but I want my own domain with *no* pornographic banners or pop-ups!!! I don't want to pay more than 5-10 bucks a month, preferably 5 bucks considering I'm not asking for much. I know nothing about adult hosting unfortunately other than most hosts are very expensive because they expect the sites hosted to contain pornographic media that will drain their resources/bandwidth. Does anyone here know anything about adult webhosts?

thanks in advance for any replies!

It will be hard to find an adult hosting company with cheap price, as you said all we think that you'll use all the BW or resources :)

I suggest to take a look to

Do most hosts classify a non-nude site as an adult or porn site?

ochiba

His company offered exactly what I listed at 5 bucks, and he even threw in a subdomain for me.

However, when I went to sign up and read the AUP it said:

You may not use your site to publish material, which Wbws.Net determines, at its sole discretion, to be unlawful, indecent or objectionable. For purposes of this policy, "material" refers to all forms of communications including narrative descriptions, graphics (including photographs, illustrations, images, drawings, logos), executable programs, video recordings, and audio recordings. NO ADULT orientated material may be stored on your site.

Another webhost offered me services too but wanted to know exactly what kind of content I'd be hosting.

So I guess I wasn't very clear in my original post. My content is adult content, lotsa smut, and some of my friends write very graphic adult scenes as well as draw smutty pictures. Granted it won't be webcam or selling undergarments or the run of the mill professional pornography and the only people who will bother to visit the site are us, but it's still *adult* content.

So I need a webhost who will not question my content. Ummm... please don't email me if you are a standard webhost cuz I already have 3 of those ^_^

sorry for being unclear.

Did you check my recommendation? I think your content is allowed there. Aothough you need to pay around $9 for the service.

Since they offer the lowest amount of space I'm willing to settle for at the highest price I'm willing to pay, I won't bug their sales guy unless I have no other options, but I did bookmark it! I'm just kinda bummed because the host that I talked to at first was perfect for my site until I read the AUP; I got all excited about that one subdomain... man, am I lame! ^_~

thanks.

I just took a look at my pm and there were messages there so I'm going to check those sites out! I think I found one that is going to charge me only 5 bucks!

I found my *adult* host for 6.50 with the following features:

150 Megabytes of Disk Space (100 MB Webspace, 25MB Mysql space, 25MB Mail space)
5 Gigabyte of data transfer
WebSite Control Panel (H-Sphere)
25 POP Email Accounts
unlimited autoresponders
unlimited email aliases
unlimited email forwarders
10 Sub Domains
1 ftp account
5 MySQL Databases
PHP4.05 + CGI + PERL+SSI
Preintalled CGI Scripts
Password Protected Directories
Site Studio

I don't need all of this, but it's nice to have anyway, including the nummy subdomains!

Again, thanks WHT.

Nothing against it, but it seem I just read one post here yesterday, said the host charged the client 31GB transfer instead of the real 700MB by mistake.

I couldn't find the post today, but I think it's your host. If I am wrong, I am sorry. Just want to tell you what happened.

Mistakes do happen, and while I am intolerant of anyone else's imperfections (other than my own ^_~) It doesn't stop the fact that they will happen anyway. To me it's not about screwing up, it's about how you handle the screw up afterwards. A quick resolution and perhaps a bellyrub of sorts for extra compensation make me just as happy a client as if the mistakes never happened. It's when it takes forever to resolve a mistake... that's when I get rabid customerish.... can you locate that post please? I'd really like to read it.

So far I've had nuthin' but smooth sailing with this host. The fact that the sales guy stayed up with me *all* night to set up my account was really what impressed me the most. My account kicked in at like 3 in the morning I think maybe even later! I like their ToS because they are clear fair and, ya just gotta love a ToS that calls spamming on their servers "suicide" ^_^

I went into my account and loved it. The CP rocks! My FTP is lightening speed, and honestly, if I weren't banking on GearHost.com to be my future hosting god, I'd seriously consider moving my large v-community over to them.

I still have to see how their uptime is. If the uptime sucks, the original host with the questionable AUP contacted me assuring that I could host my legal adult content on their servers. So I'll bite the bullet for 6.50 and slide on over to 5 bucks for the same services. I actually felt kinda guilty that I didn't wait for his response... but ya know how wanting it all and wanting it now works ^_~

Since this is just a dump adult site for me and my hentai friends, I'm not really looking for competitive hosting edges... just cheap, easy to use, and up. That's all I need to be happy.

Again, if you can find the thread for me, I'd really appreciate it. I'd like to see how the mistake was handled.

smuttin' and happy.

Well, looks like I gushed too soon. Site's already down and it's only been one day ^_^ Which leaves me with two conclustions:

1) I'm the unluckiest webmaster in the world

2) The sales guy didn't know how to read when I said I want *reliable* hosting

Looks like I might be going with the 5 dollar host afterall. Am I jumping the gun? Perhaps... but having your site down for a half hour (and it's still not up) on your first day looks like a cloudy forecast, even if it is only a temporary fluke. This is sooo LiquidWeb all over again.

Now I *really* want to see that thread ebird.

Oh, in case I'm a moron or something here is my traceroute. It looks like it's their problem, am I wrong?

Thank you soooo much for the offer, but my new host has offered to move me to a different network server because it's been over an hour and I'm guessing that new server that I was on won't be up for a few more hours at least, if not at all.

Although no one replied to my TT, when I sent the sales guy an email, he replied right away and resolved the problem himself. That's something that I appreciate.

I figure I'll monitor my site 24/7 today and tomorrow (when my domain name rekicks over) and if it goes down both days then I'll change hosts.

As far as this thread goes, I'll either come back in two days and eat my words about the LiquidWeb sequel host and admit that I am Screwtape's daughter, or I'll state my high falutin' opinion that I don't think this is the right webhost despite all their wonderful features. I only reposted stating my problems because I was hyper-gushing too early and it looked like others were about to take the dive based on what have been my wrong assessment. Considering how helpful this forum has been to me, it would be unfair to say this host rocks, have folks sign up and then get screwed out of their movie money because I'm lame. However, if they really do rock and I'm just unlucky... then I will encourage those who expressed interest to go for it.

If this doesn't work out, I'd like to give wbws.net a try because they are cheaper than your services, and we've already discussed reliabilty yesterday. I don't want to waste your time, but honestly, I'm poor and this is just a my dog spot homepage-ish site ('cept with smut >;o9)

again sincerely thanxsomuch!

I received an email from sales exempting me from that policy.

I think the issue is that so many porn sites are just awful system and bandwidth hogs, plus they spam ::grrrr...:: I don't think it's the content itself that makes so many hosts refuse it. Am I wrong in this assumption?

I didn't want to jump into this thread, but since my name was mentioned... ;)

Give your new host a fair chance. It *is* possible that this is a coincidence. A few months back I had a 2 day intensive email session with a client who was afraid to make the big step to a new host. I finally convince him, he moves over....his server crashes for the first time in 3 months just 2 hrs after that!

I am still not sure who got more upset over this. Me or the customer

Part of the email which I send to Ochiba:

We do not use the aup/tos as the absolute "law". They are mostly to provide
Wbws with legal grounds in the worst case scenarios. Just because we "can"
do something according to the tos/aup doesn't always mean we will excersise
our right and actually do it.

Pixel, would you please read my post? I dunno if you own this company, but you already posted how much you liked it in your own thread. If I'm too cheap to pay 9 bucks for account when I can get one for 5 bucks and only need 2-4 gig, what is the logic of posting a link to a company whose min plan starts at $154.00???!!!

If you were just trying to help, thanks anyway! It's just that I don't use swimming pools to take my baths.

Oh yeah, yesterday when I read your original post... that company's website was down for quite a while.

Conclusion: It sucks to be me.

I think it was the new server that I was original put on that just sucked and was evil (note to all webhosts, don't stick evil customers on beta servers ^_~). However, the other server I was moved to was and *is* great. And this new server is up and running without problems. My FTP is fast, and everything is working fine, and my mailing list is MAILMAN!!!! <-- the best mailing list in the world. I also have entropy chat!

So anyway, if you guys who were expressing interest still want to know if this is a good host... the answer thus far is yes. I'm looking forward to a long term of hosting with them.

k--that's all.

$7.50 is not bad for adult hosting. Is there any other adult host that cost around the same?

01-29-2002, 06:36 PM
One is wbws.net, the other was ecommercediscovery.com, and the third and fourth, I dunno if they want me to give their information out on this board, but I can pm you with their info if you want to inquire from them directly.

Honestly, the only other service that I found competitive to my current host was wbws.net, and if it weren't for josh working with me throughout the night, I would have signed up with wbws. Although, now that my site up I've already gotten to try out all the extra goodies offered for such a cheap price, and I know I'm getting way more than what I paid for.

Depending on the reliability I might open up another account or upgrade my current on and end up hosting one of my other sites with them. I hate having so many webhosts, and I've been kinda waiting for Gearhost to settle this problem for me, but the wait goes on...

Oh yeah, and you need to get permission to run an adult site on wbws.net and it can't be a professional adultsite (pay per view dirty pic stuff), so if you run that you're outta luck ^_^ However ecommercediscovery.com allows you to host whatever adult content you'd like.

By the way, this control panel is killer it's called Cpanel 4.x. Does anyone know if there are any other hosts out there that offer this control panel while having similiar features to GearHost.com? I'd like to keep my options open if Gearhost doesn't implement their *nix platform servers by next month. Ryan is being supercool by allowing me to have a W2K account under an extended guarantee while they do this, but I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket and waste Gearhost's time or generosity. Please let me know!

btw, hope that info helped madcool!

ok, so i've already recommended them... but again, i wanna stress that they are reliable and good value

i have an adult site (http://www.pronpost.com), i've been using sexy-hosting for about 3 months. there has hardly been any downtime (the only > 45 minutes was this weekend - about 3 hours on and off), but otherwise everything has been great...

i use a lot of hosts (for work, i run logging servers for telecoms companies), so i'm very aware of bad hosts - there are a few. sexy-hosting have been one of the best...

But they only offer 20MB and 2Gig for 8 bucks. EcommerceDiscovery.com offers 150 MB and 4Gig for the same price.

You said in another post that they upgrade your account if you post a banner for them. How much did they upgrade your acocunt to, if you don't mind me asking? Is it just the next level or will they give you more space or more transfer at your request?

ochiba

Jedito

Here I come to explain :)

It was more like an exchange
He added our banner in his site, and I upgraded his account to the next level with more BW and Space.

ochiba
01-30-2002, 01:16 AM
That's not a bad deal at all!

I was hesitant at first to follow the link because I didn't want popups or anyone screwing around with my homepage/favorite links, but I saw the banner and man, that is *very* tasteful.

I tried to host my site originally on a free adult site, but the banner was huge and it was a rotating picturing of really graphic pornography, which kinda ruined the mood for my site.

That's a killer deal that you offer, is that for everyone or just for customers who aren't too proud to beg? Or do you need to sign up for a certain level account? I just didn't see information on this anywhere on your site. Your 10 plan is a lot better than your 8 dollar plan, which would be great for the 8 bucks... duh ^_^;;

ochiba

Jedito
01-30-2002, 01:25 AM
that was an special deal with him, we don't usually do that.
Also, he didn't got the Sexy X plan for $7.95 :)

About our prices, probably you think that we are expensive, I don't think so, but we arent cheap either, we can't oversell with adult hosting.
Overselling in adult hosting is like play at the russian roulette :P

ochiba
01-30-2002, 01:54 AM
That makes sense. Most adult webhosts expect professional adult services.

But unfortunately it just puts us smut folks with no interest in running a porn business out of luck. Either we pay the big bucks for adult hosting or live in fear of discovery from a regular host. Man, life was so much easier when I was a sesame street junkie.

thanks for your info Jedito. I don't even know if I need all the space that I have (150MB) as right now I have my entire site up and I'm only using 3MB, so maybe your rates are really reasonable for non-professional adult webmasters.
