Hi!

Why do I get so different speeds using Wget from my Finnish server or downloading a file from HE.net?

From my server I Wget Egihostings test file about 200kbs
And when I just downloaded it with Internet Explorer I got just about 80kbs.


Both server and my internet connection is at the same place.

It could be that tcp/ip is messed up on the windows machine. I never get fast speeds on win 98 machines..no matter what the connection.
Besides that, it could be a bad network cable causing checksum errors or a faulty switch port, etc

check if your nic is the the correct duplex

disable a proxy server if you have any set-up in your web browser configuration :)

ps. windows is slow by default:) come on :)
