I am not a host or reseller. And in fact, I am a amateur when it comes to figuring out web hosts control panels. But I have built several website and got them to function pretty effectively using numerous hosts.

With that said, I have come here to ask the pro's for help.

Now, I could just be lame, but....I just signed up with a new host. My server is all set up, so I am told. Here is the problem; I cannot get my pages to show up on the File Manager of my hosts control panel. I ftp them in just fine, but nowhere under the Control Panel/File Manager can I find the documents/files. I ftp just like I have done thousands of times before with previous hosts. I emailed support and I received back a smug reply that says "you ftp'd your files to your home directory, you need to ftp them to your www directory"......eh?

Unless I am wrong, the Control Panel should show all the files on my server. I have never had to ftp files to anywhere but to my ftp://x*********** using a / and the file name in html. Pretty straight forward. I have even set up a new "test" directory on server and succefully ftp'd into it. but the files don't show up. I have even ftp'd directly into my IP address.

So what am I missing? Am I just being lame? I have no problem if someone says that I am, because I am not even close to an expert. But this is pretty basic stuff and I have done it many times before. I was just thinking that perhaps this control panel might be different for some reason.

Thanks in advance.

The file manager must only show what is in your www directory, and not the entire root of your account (home directory). Your root (home directory) should be:

/

and you should see folders listed, one of which should be www (acording to what you wrote above). I'm not certain exactly what you are seeing, where you enter when you FTP in, etc., so maybe if you post waht CP this is, others with a similar setup may be able to help you.

By the sounds of your host's response, when you FTP in, you should see a "www" folder. Try going into that and creating your "test" directory in there, and then uploading your files.
