I signed up for hosting at www.freehostrus.com a few months ago, but the company has recently disapeared without notice. When i go to their site it opens some sort of default page. My site is still up and running fine (for now i guess) but i would like to transfer my domain sometime soon. The problem is that i dont know who to get in contact with in order to have it transferred too a new host. I have never transferred a domain before so i don't even know what information i would need to get it transferred. I can't change or even access the information i think i would need from my account manager. If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Your new registrar may handle that for you. When I last transferred about 12 domains to two new registrars I did not even talk/communicate with the old guys. The new registrars did everything (and the old guys included some of the difficult to deal with registrars).

As projo stated, your new registrar should be able to initiate the transfer for you. All you need to do, is find your new host and/or registrar. When you order your transfer from them, they can simply email the current registrar requesting the transfer. You will then receive an email at your admin contact address, verifying that you wish to transfer the domain. Each registrar has a slightly different process, but all you need to do is follow their instructions, and the transfer will happen.
Good luck!

That's right. I did answer a confirmation email. I guess I ment to say I didn't initiate any communications with the old guys and that the whole process was hassle free.
