Does anybody have any experience with these switches (mainly the 4000) .. I understand they are native Layer3 .. we are lookign into purchasing one and just lookign for some comments on them :)

They are very nice and stable. We have a lot of Foundry products and love them. What are you going to be using it for?

I prefer extreme switches myself. You should talk too uuallan.

I haven't played with them much, but we did evaluate them last year. They were pretty solid, as you mentioned, they have native layer 3 capabilities, which is nice, and they were pretty inexpensive compared to comparable Cisco/Extreme boxes.

Overall, I think they are good box. If you need more details, contact me off-board, and I will try to answer your questions.

I was thinkign of using one as our Core switch, the idea beeing to have fiber coming from the M5 to the BigIron on a layer 3 environment, for the optimum performance possible

Just one, sheesh, you need to have at least two :D. Do you have multiple connections coming into the M5, and how much bandwidth do you plan to push through the BigIron? Although, it should be able to handle any bandwidth that the M5 can push out.
