![]() | View Full Version : Who leasing rack from DC and selling dedicate server your own? pcnet21 10-05-2004, 11:35 PM what is the best pricing method to selling dedicated to recover initial hardware cost and monthly rack lease cost then make profit after some month? Techark 10-06-2004, 12:23 AM Depends on what you want your pay back time to be. Figure number of months you want to pay off the hardware divide the server cost by that number then you have to consider the average amount of bandwidth per server that will be used and divide that by your cost, your rack cost divided by the number of servers you can place on the rack, then your overhead cost and desired profit. All that equals your selling price. direktiv 10-06-2004, 02:17 AM It really depends on the market you are going to enter, some businesses can pay off the hardware in 2-3 months, some pay it off in 1-2 years. If capital is a problem, you could take advantage of some of the low rent-to-own rates out on the market right now, I am aware of a few companies doing this right now. There is no real definite answer to your question without you providing a bit more information on your plan of attack. Hope that helps pcnet21 10-06-2004, 08:24 AM let say half rack and 10mb unmeter for $500, and buy 10 1u servers at $750-p4-3.0ghz, 1gb, 160gb hd. so initial cost will be $7500 and $500 monthly..let say you leased out all 10 in first month. is this reasonable assumsion? Bodeba 10-06-2004, 09:53 AM Its funny this thread should pop up now as i am working on a project similar to what you are talking about. You probably already have the protection of redundant servers and network equipment. interGate addresses the final single point of failure — connectivity. Instead of an Internet connection through a single ISP, this revolutionary managed service gives you access to the resources of multiple ISPs simultaneously. Should the worst happen and any of the ISPs experience a failure, interGate will automatically switch your communications through the others, guaranteeing an uninterrupted service for you, your employees and your customers. As regards reliability, we'll put our money where our mouth is — a Service Level Agreement of 100% availability. That's how good the service is! Set-up fee (without supply and management of router) £1,500.00 Set-up fee (with supply and management of router) £2,500.00 Premium InterGate Fee: £350.00 per Mb per month (MFN, Level3 & Telia) Standard InterGate Fee: £150.00 per Mb per month (Level3 & Telia) So to lease a full rack from redbus for one year, with connected to standard integate Setup fee: £3,500 Anuall fee for rack and connectivity: (3mb persec) £9,400 So basically, if you wanted to pre-pay your colo space for a year in advance (Which is what i would like to do) you would need to acheive just short of 13 grand (12900) and that dosent include anything except a router and a cabinet you need to get servers and switches and all the rest. However i havent asked Redbus if they do discounts for yearly rental contracts. Assuming you have a router and a switch in your rack you will have space for 45 servers. Anyone else can carry this fun maths game on if they want but I just wanted to shed some light on the scene :D othellotech 10-22-2004, 05:09 PM Redbus Interhouse pricing: interRack Set-up: £1,000.00 Annual Rate: £4,000.00 Set-up fee (with supply and management of router) £2,500.00 Standard InterGate Fee: £150.00 per Mb per month (Level3 & Telia) Setup fee: £3,500 Anuall fee for rack and connectivity: (3mb persec) £9,400 Assuming you have a router and a switch in your rack you will have space for 45 servers. Slightly cheaper prices for the same or better quality rackspace within Interhouse can be had from various redbus partner companies and suite-holders, however to an extent, racks are racks are racks, it's the support, service, power etc that varies. Intergate is not the cheapest method of obtaining a multihomed datafeed, many suppliers provide MH transit as standard, and you don't always need the router (routed ip's as an access vlan switchport to your switch for example) You are *extremely* unlikely to get 45 servers in the rack for a number of reasons - even 1u servers can sometime take up more than 1u, requiring gaps between them for heat dissipation, shelves to take the weight unless all railed etc. - you must leave room at the bottom for the ease of bringing in the power and datacables, often amounting to as much as 2u - realistically , with 8amp of power to each rack, you're looking at 16-24 quality servers , or as few as 1 (dell balade units requiring 2a per installed blade for example means 1 server , 4 blades, thats all you get), additional power prices vary from 280/month down to about 50/month per extra 8amps - heat/colling will become a bigger issue the more kit you install - leading to shorter life on the parts/servers, more maintenance etc. possibly a better set of calculations would be : setup costs .... 1000 setup for the rackspace 250 setup for exta power 500 for a decent managable 24-port switch 1400 for 4 apc masterswitch pdu units for remote power management 500 setup for your chosen transit supplier, ripe consultancy/IPaddresses etc 4000 pa for the rackspace 1200 pa for exta power 4800 pa for 3-5Mb/s multihomed transit =10k/pa for appx 30 low power draw 1u servers However i havent asked Redbus if they do discounts for yearly rental contracts. you quoted the discount - 4k/year or 350/m (4200/yr) :p |
