View Full Version : Download speed from YOUR dedicated at burst.net ?

Hello,

We are wondering what the download speed is from your dedicated server(s) at burst.net

We allways could download files with 400kb/s and more but since a few weeks we can't get more then 25kb/s with a single thread and 40kb/s tops with more threads(download accelerator). It looks like we are capped at 40kb/s but I only say that it looks that way but let's not jump to conclusions.

I want to know what other peoples download speeds are (from their own dedicated at burst.net) before I go and complain about it. :bawling:

Thank you!

Post a file up for download and I can tell you what I get for a download speed on it.

It's allready tested by different people worldwide. It's the same everywhere so now I need to know if others have the same with their dedicated at burst.net

Thank you.

Ok, this is on a Burst.net server...

http://66.197.134.225/test_download.zip it is 598k that should be big enough to test with and small enough not to be bothersome...

Hope that helps.

EDIT: If you need the file bigger let me know...

Michael

EDIT: I made the filesize bigger. It is now: 2152 k

HRBrendan

It was pretty small so I couldnt really tell but I was getting several hundred k/sec over our connection here.

It was too small, but it loaded in less than a second for me (I'm behind a 100MBit connection) .

Maybe loading something of 10MB would give a better benchmark.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for trying to help me out here.
Maybe the file is to smal to be accurate but it seems I get the same speed as on our server.
I see that others get higher speeds so my guess so far is that it is because of AT&T having problems like Sean from Burst said in another thread.

From the Netherlands we get to New York with @home and from new York to burst.net is done by AT&T now while when we got the high speeds the connection from new York till Burst.net was done by Sprint.

I want to be connected from New York till Burst.net by SPRINT because it seems they have the better connection there for me.

Well give me a second and I will make it 2 megs. That should be large enough... :)

Ok the file is now 2152 k....

I would think that has got to be long enough...

Let me know...

162kbps for me.

michaeln
01-22-2002, 11:05 AM
I averaged 54kb per sec on DSL.

But then again. My ISP stinks.....

Michael

HRBrendan

leveled out at about the same for me.

Hmmm, not more then 24kbps :(

I can easily get 700 kbps with my connection so that is not the bottleneck. I think AT&T is screwing up and I will complain about it at burst.net

I'm used to access the server with 400kbps and the last weeks only with 25kbps. The CAP has got to go don't you think?

I got about 200k from home.

I got about 156 k from school

My friend got a few k from his work connection

The speed looks pretty darn good

Domenico:

We do not have anything capped.

Also, our MCI/Worldcom line is going live today or tomorrow, so that will make things even faster....so give it until then, an then get back to us if you still have this problem.

That would be great Sean.
I never said you capped anything but maybe AT&T does. How can you explain the speed drop from 400kbps to 40kbps then?

I hope that when the MCI/Worldcom line goes live everything will be normal again because the packet loss for the last days does make it difficult to upload to our server and more.

I will get back to you when everything stays the same.
btw. I just wanted to know what others had for download speeds from their server at burst.net to compare.

Thank you,
Domenico

What are you saying here?
I'm not a newbie!

I get 700kbps from other sites easily.
There is nothing wrong wih my connection but it could be the connection from me to the server and that is exactly what I'm trying to find out here.

I see this is your second post and if your postings continue to be of this quality you are the only one that could really do us all a favour and that is to stop posting.

Read the thread before making any comments.

Thank you,

Trace complete.

Our connection to burst.net goes as you can see from the Netherlands to New York to Washington and then back to New York again and then to Middletown(burst.net).

It seems that something has changed at AT&T or @home a couple of weeks ago.
Bad luck for us I guess because there is really nothing anyone can do about it :(
Well, they could drop some more lines in the ocean offcourse :)

Any Europeans tried to download the file because I see the Americans have a very good connection to the burst.net servers.

As of a few minutes ago:

http://www.exampledomain.net is no longer on a burst.net server. I have moved it to a server at Ventures Online..

So as of now if you want to download the file from burst.net to test the speed you can download it from here:
http://66.197.134.225/test_download.zip

I have edited the posts above to reflect accordingly

If you want to download the file from VO to test the spead you can download it here:
http://www.exampledomain.net/test_download.zip

Currently through my DSL I am getting about 54k from burst.net and 36k from VO...

Remember though my DSL stinks... That is why my connections are so low..

Fine, here are some new results using wget from my linux box:

burst : 11:47:01 (1.34 MB/s) - `test_download.zip' saved [2204161/2204161]

vo: 11:48:52 (381.58 KB/s) - `test_download.zip.2' saved [2204161/2204161]

vo must be a little slower today but burst is rocking
