View Full Version : Identical dedicated boxes in US, europe and asia?

Hi,

I am looking for a good dedicated provider that has data centers in US (east coast), europe, and Asia

We need identical hardware in all (4) machines, such as dual Intel 2.8+, RAID 1, 1gb ram.

We found that very few companies have multiple data centers worldwide...

Presumed quality hosters I've found are:

*Hostway (quite some bad reviews on this site?)
*Verio (can't deliver identical hardware, bad support?)
*Rackspace (no data centre in asia...)

Currently we're hosting with a relativelly small company in the Netherlands, but we need to upgrade to different geographical locations. Have no experience with the bigger hosters.

Please help me find the best option...
Any comments are welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Maurits

How identical do you want them (i.e. same motherboard etc) or just same hardware spec? If the latter you can probably go to seperate companies. If Identical prehaps you might be better co-loing

Preferably 100% identical. We'll be distribution our software over all machines. Besides, I would really prefer to have only one contract for everything...

So far the only provider I've found that can provide this is hostway, but they have many negative comments on this website...

One option might be to see if you can get the DC's to buy the hardware upfront then colo it and take responsibility for it going wrong. However I think you are going to have a challange as you will need to go with a big company who had DC's spread around

Yep I agree,

Still Colo-ing would be the last option since a managed environment fits our company a lot better...

What about co-loing then paying another company to manage the server

To have a datacenter in the US is a tough enough job, to have datacenters all around the world (as you are looking) is a HUGE task.

Just FYI, Hostway do not have DC's in ASIA. They have an operation center in Korea, but no DC's. If they do, I would love to know where they are located at.

The only company that you'll be looking at is most probably NTT or more known as NTT DoCoMo (an EXTREMELY HUGE Japanese company). They have DC's all around the world and their main goal is to Intranet every server in the world who uses their network!

That's the only company that I know so far that has DC's all around the world! But if you're just looking at companies who offers dedicated servers all around the world, then I don't think I could really help you out already... I know of companies who sub contract to asia but they will be charging extra for that and trust me, getting everything the same (server) is VERY VERY HARD!

Hope you find your host. Bye...

ntt = verio, for his intents and purposes. i don't think they have europe. in any cases, your chances of finding a single company that has datacenters they provide managed services in on all three continents is not very high.

yes, this probably won't work (isn't that strange...).

ntt bought verio, I have an offer from them for singapore, london and sterlin (VA). Yet, on all three dc's they offer slightly different hardware....

So Hostway is the only option.. They told me they guarantee the same hardware on 3 places (yes, Korea is the asian location)

Unless we go for colo with multiple parties :-( That doesn't feel good at all.

Any tips on hostway??

Thnx, Maurits

I'm not certain what your requirements are, but if you're just looking for distributed content Akamai might be a viable option.

We do not run websites but custom applications that do a *lot* of http traffic between our machines and specific partners located in those areas...

You may be able to find companys that specify a machine model such as a Dell or Supermicro product.

That would give you greater choice in locations; however you did mention you would prefer to have your contract all with one company.

Not easy :)

Colocation seems like the natural answer. Any particular reason you don't "feel good" about it?

because we'd have to hire a system administrator...

Well, you'll get exactly what you need that way.

I think it's a better solution, unless you're trying to do this the cheapest way possible.

FYI, Hostway has a huge DC in Korea. The 160,000 sq ft DC is located in Bundang. Just google it and you will find plenty of information. Saw it on my last business trip, very impressive I might add~

I think a dedicated server solution is fine for what you want. It will probably be less headaches than a co-lo solution.

Good luck.
