View Full Version : What would you expect for $10?

I'm having a hard time finding a reseller that's cheap without overselling too much. How much disk space and bandwidth do you think would be realistic for about $10 a month?

Most likely somewhere between three and four gigabytes of disk space that accompany between ten and twenty gigabytes of bandwidth.

That would not be a completely unreasonable request, though some slight reselling may be involved.

You could always write to a host you are interested in and ask by how much they resell, if at all.

You are reffering to OVER-selling aren't you?

Yes, sorry. Thank you. I'm quite tired. :P

Should be:

I think ... most likely somewhere between 0.5 and 1 gigabytes of disk space ...
The cheapest dedicated servers cost about $60 / month without control panel and that comes with 40 or 80 G of disk space. So the reasonable price for 1 gig of reseller hosting is about $10 I think. Everything else seems like overselling ...

I would expect somewhere around 500-1000MB and 15-20GB of bandwidth. Within those limits the host probably isn't overselling very much, and should sell it for around $10/month. That is my opinion anyways.

That seems a little low, expecially the disk space. Do you really think someone would build a server with only 80 gigs?

Why not?
We build our servers with a total of 73GB of space on 2 mirrored 73GB SCSI hard disks.

The more diskspace that is added to the server, the more the server cost, the more the cost is passed on to the customer.

For 9.95 , Gazzin is offering more !!
U get 500MB personal space, + 25GB bandwidth (just for your reseller acc) , then you also get your actual space and bandwidth to resell =)

Heh, do you work for them? ;)

Well, for $10 don't expect much. A host has to sell ONE HUNDRED of such plans to be reliably and financially stable.

So is 3-4gb space "slightly" overselling? Sorry miakeru, "slightly" overselling?

Cap'n Steve: For $10 a month you get a decent shared hosting account. If I were you, I would think twice about a $10 reseller account. Also find out their definition of "reseller account" It could be one of those buy one shared account at $10 to get reseller status then pay half price for more accounts and reseller them at full price.

Our servers are only 80 gig per machine. I dont think I would want 400 websites on one server enless I knew they were exactly limited in thier resources/bandwidth usage. IT's like keeping all your eggs in one basket.

I'm more curious why would someone want to work for so little. WHen i see someone selling hosting for $6 a month i wonder why bother. If you give like unlimited domains you know you are probally going to have more tech calls on web issues. Even with 1000 accounts that's only $6000 bucks. Yes it sounds like a lot but after taxes, some form of pay check, server cost, support cost it doesn't seem worth the headache. You get one server burb your phone goes off the hook.

Ok, after looking at some more dedicated servers, it seems like many are built with 80 gb hard drives (although I'd still feel guilty building a server with less storage space than my home computer). However, they all seem to come with at least a terabyte of bandwidth.

It depends on what the server specs are and how much profit the company want's to make per server.

You can expect anywhere from 500MB - 2000MB of space and 5 - 10 GB of transfer.
