Im pretty sure most of you will find this funny...(taken off another board)

"Recently one of my friends, a computer wizard, paid me a visit.
As we were talking I mentioned that I had recently installed Windows XP on my PC.
I told him how happy I was with this operating system and showed him the Windows XP CD.
To my surprise he threw it into my microwave oven and turned it on.
Instantly I got very upset, because the CD had become precious to me, but he said:
'Do not worry, it is unharmed.'

After a few minutes he took the CD out, gave it to me and said:
'Take a close look at it.'

To my surprise the CD was quite cold to hold and it seemed to be heavier than before.
At first I could not see anything, but on the inner edge of the central hole I saw an inscription,
an inscription finer than anything I had ever seen before.
The inscription shone piercingly bright, and yet remote, as if out of a great depth:

12413AEB2ED4FA5E6F7D78E78BEDE820945092OF923A40EElOE5IOCC98D444AA08E324

'I cannot understand the fiery letters,' I said in a timid voice.

'No, but I can,' he said.
'The letters are Hex, of an ancient mode, but the language is that of Microsoft, which I shall not utter here.
But in common English this is what it says:

One OS to rule them all,
One OS to find them.
One OS to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

It is only two lines from a verse long known in Systems lore:

"Three OS's for corporate kings in their towers of glass,
Seven for valley lords where orchards used to grow,
Nine for dotcoms doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord Gates on his dark throne In the Land of Redmond where the Shadows lie.

One OS to rule them all,
one OS to find them,
One OS to bring them all
and in thedarkness bind them,
In the Land of Redmond where the Shadows lie."

Yeah in case anyone is confused, its basically a play on "The Lord of the Rings". In this case comparing the Dark Lord Sauron to Bill Gates.

If you want to generate something more 'productive' from your microwave, try sticking an egg or lemon in, and microwaving that...:D :D :D

or you could just put a metal article in side of it, then it will explode, well that's what mine did a few years ago

I have put a CD in the microwave. I only turned on the microwave for three seconds.

I do not recommend anyone else try it.

The lightning show is nice. The fumes were choking.

It only take a few seconds, BTW. Makes a cool little electrical storm inside the CD. The CD has little traces where the sparks were. Stand it up on a paper cup for better viewing.

But NEVER put a WindowsXP CD on your finger, for obvious reasons.

(edit) Heh, he posted right before I did. So, yeah, don't do that. At least, I didn't tell you to. (/edit)

... this has to be the stupidest thing ever.

A cd reflects almost as good as a mirror, so if the microwaves hit the cd, they will bounce right off and totally mess up your microwave.

Don't try this :P

Nah, [I assume] when you put a CD in the microwave, [I am totally guessing] the thin reflective layer [would theoretically] just heats up and melts before [it] could mess up the microwave. It's not like a chunk of metal. Seems like more and more CDR's are even semi translucent with a bright light.

Still, you probably shouldn't do it, but I have from time to time and I've experienced no damage to the 'wave.

(To see what happens to metal in a microwave, just watch this fall's season premiere of Futurama. You know, episode 3ACV19? "Roswell That Ends Well"?)

Once I got pass some incompatibility problems with some hardware I had it is by far the best OS ive used so far. At worst its just like Windows 2000, and it hasn't crashed yet.
