Akash 01-29-2002, 05:50 PM Unlimited transfer?? I have a 5MB file that is updated 2 times a day and is downloaded by about 300 people twice a day(after each update). This equates to 3GB transfer per day(90GB per month) and would not violate your system resource abuse policy. Is it still possible for me to use your most basic plan for $36/year???
aventure 01-29-2002, 06:28 PM We don't accept any multimedia/exe files or zip files over 5mbs for exactly that reason. 90GB a month? Thats rediculous amount to expect!

Then don't offer it. Why dont you set a limit. Maybe say that you will work with customers if they need more than your limit, but dont say there is no limit.

Why is it a ridiculous amount to expect? You clearly stated you were offering unlimited transfer!

I agree with the aboe two responses. If you can't offer the unlimited transfer, don't even mention it.
SoftWareRevue 01-29-2002, 08:36 PM Why don't you have your complete terms on site? From your terms section
For complete terms, please email
 Seems odd.
aventure 01-29-2002, 08:53 PM If its real traffic, not redirected, part of a forum or because of downloads/uploads of exes, multimedia files and the ZIPs are under 1MB, then sure, come right ahead, shall we start the transfer?
Akash 01-29-2002, 11:33 PM Good thing i didn't signup...(not like i was going to anyways just making a point)....

I could easily break down the file sizes into 5 1MB files or even 50 100K files and nothing would be wrong with that right? How is it ridiculous to expect to be able to transfer 90GB a month when you advertise unlimited transfer?
If its real traffic, not redirected, part of a forum or because of downloads/uploads of exes, multimedia files and the ZIPs are under 1MB, then sure, come right ahead, shall we start the transfer?
It is real traffic from a community of programmers that download a library c++ classes and visual basic activex controls....that's real traffic isn't it? and again I can make the zips under 1MB if you wanted
If I (or another customer) signed up and did the above, you would have gotten your a** sued in exactly 3.14 seconds!
Don't offer me unlimited transfer unless you are ready for me to signup....
SoftWareRevue 01-30-2002, 12:28 AM Will you address my "terms question" please?
Or feel free to just post them here.

This is how I understand them :
- real traffic ( not redirected ),
- no part of a forum
- no downloads/uploads of exes, multimedia files and the ZIPs unless under 1MB
- no more than 90gigs transfer

biosphere 01-30-2002, 11:43 AM You gave me a quote on an offer after I made a request. And I kind of liked it. But I cannot see what would make me wanne pay upfront for the next two years?

Post any questions you may have. Well then; let me ask the question for the third time.
Feel free to not answer again. But, by now, I'm really interested.
As, I've never seen (that doesn't mean it doesn't happen) a hosting company not disclose their full terms of service on their site.
Can you please explain, in as general form as you feel necessary, what type of sensitive information one could have in their TOS to prevent it from being readily available?

What do you classify as "multimedia files?" Are .swf files multimedia, even though they are part of a website? Are images (.jpg, .gif, .tif, .eps) multimedia, even through they are/could be part of a website? Are there size limits on these alleged multimedia files? What happens if a user has an account with 100 100k images that are constantly downloaded (non-adult, maybe an image gallery of different images), or the user has a website that has many, many images on one page/site and that site gets slashdotted frequently? It's just a normal web page with normal images, but it could very well consume a massive amount of bandwidth.
We have a customer who runs a site that is strictly images (very small ones too) and pumps out some seriously massive bandwidth.
Or can a user only have a text-based website with no images?
I think these are valid questions, and are the exact questions I would be asking if I were looking for webhosting, so I'm sure others will benefit from the answers.

We pay all our costs 2 years in advance to keep all the costs low.
You can choose to pay every 6 months, or the same price for a year, in the end it saves everyone paying the same cost in a years time, therefore saving you money. You can still move your site away at any time.

If the traffic in real traffic generated to the site, we do offer unlimited bandwidth. We will not however provide 100GB of bandwidth to a message board, chat software or "download archive". As this is a low cost host we cannot afford to provide for 100GB of bandwidth to pass through the server free of charge. If its a general site, thats simply popular. Fine. Otherwise users can opt to pay for extensive bandwidth usage.

You contradict yourself:
- "we do offer unlimited bandwidth"
- "As this is a low cost host we cannot afford to provide for 100GB of bandwidth to pass through the server free of charge."
Yes, you do offer unlimited bandwidth. But you cannot provide it.

I would like a site, but I feel that I should know up front if you will deliver what you advertise.
I am not a download archive, nor a forum and nor do I host multimedia files. My zip files can easily be split into 1MB sizes, heck the files can even be called and viewed in the web browser so that my visitors don't have to download them, they are simply .txt files zipped....
So I need a simple yes or no-which you haven't given me yet-as to whether or not my site can be hosted on your servers.

Please expect an email from our legal team.
What, expect emails from legal@aventure-media.co.uk?
Heh, why would you have your legal team contact voxtreme? You can't do anything to him, he's done nothing wrong. You technically are scamming people by offering them services you cannot provide. :argue:
Maybe you should have your legal team concentrating on covering your butt for when someone signs up for 2 years of your unlimited plan, and you cancel them because they're "using too much unlimited bandwidth"
BTW, do you own your own datacenter? And what $75,000 or whatever control panel are you using on your packages?
aventure 01-30-2002, 06:53 PM I'm sorry if this isn't what you expect, but your replies make no difference, as unfortunately you are comparing your comments with other companies. You have no experience of our packages and services, and therefore your replies are simply cheap shots which reflect yourself and not our company
Yes, but because they just have to bitch..
porcupine 01-30-2002, 07:54 PM Its a cheap shot on unlimited bandwidth hosting.

Yeah right....I don't need your "services" anymore anyways....
If you are a newbie reading this thread, I'm suggest you think about what unlimited bandwidth really is before you purchase a hosting plan from ANY company
aventure 01-30-2002, 08:13 PM lol I'm sorry, we can offer a better service. Please please save us from offering excellent services and low rates, please :bawling:
porcupine 01-30-2002, 08:18 PM Why don't you just stop offering unlimited transfer? Why dont you just put a set limit on the accounts, which you can actually fulfill. I mean seriously, people here want to know exactly what they're getting, and when you put "unlimited", they dont know how much they can use before getting cut off or their prices hiked.
Stating you offer unlimited transfer (IMHO) is just a way to mask how much transfer your plans offer, *or* because you never decided on how much bandwidth should go with what price, but regardless, you don't offer truly unlimited transfer.
aventure 01-31-2002, 12:29 AM Considering our staff work here, and well, we don't have any ex staff :wavey:
