I'd like to know if ServerMatrix servers on the Silver Managed Plan, includes server securing, hardening and optimization?

So if I was to purchase a SM server, since I'm not a server admin myself, would I still need to hire Server Management Services as I do for my other servers?

No, to the best of my knowledge it does not. You would need to hire an outside security firm to harden and manage the security on your server.

You can do a search on here, there are some good providers. I reccomend rack911.com

The silver admin plan only includes redhat released updates, however they are not proactive and you must submit a ticket to have them applied.

Actually, you are completely incorrect. Here is what is included with the silver plan:

Customer has root/admin access.

Ping Monitoring.

Network IDS.

Onsite Hands and Eyes.

O/S updates and patches.

Service Monitoring (FTP, SSH, HTTP, HTTPS, Terminal Services, etc….) [up to 3 services]

System Monitoring (Drive Space, Processor usage, Server Load, etc….) [up to 3 services]

Process Monitoring (ColdFusion.exe, PGP.exe, ApacheGuard.sh, snort, etc….) [up to 3 services]

To the original thread starter: It's probably best you direct these types of questions to ServerMatrix directly...

ServerMatrix's silver management plan does not provide any hardening or optimization. He would need to hire an outside firm to complete that.

I suggest that you hire a server management company like rack911 or we manageservers to manage your servers. They might take care of your servers pro actively.

And since rishidude has made the suggestion, I'll add one more possible source for server management to the list: Geeks4Help.com. I've utilized their services for a little over a month so far and am very impressed. They're very proactive rather than reactive.
