just1post 01-21-2002, 05:40 PM Hey Everyone,
I have a few sites on a Raq4 and was wondering how far can I push it *before* it becomes dangerously unsafe and unstable. In other words, how many more sites can I squeeze into it, what are it's limits ?
I'd like to know what type of bandwidth people here are eating with their Raq's and having no troble with it.
Looking forward to your replys!
Chicken 01-21-2002, 08:04 PM I'm willing to bet that if we throw WHT on it (one site), it keels, but that you could throw 200 more tiny personal sites without problems. It isn't 'how many', or 'how much', it is 'what' that counts.
Pilgrim 01-21-2002, 09:52 PM The most maxed out raq I have runs about 110 sites and does about 200 GB transfer per month.
Load average hardly ever comes above 1.00
I must admit though that not many sites run asp or mysql. Maybe no more then 10
just1post 01-22-2002, 08:41 AM As a newbie who has alot to learn about Raq's, what load is acceptable ? I'm pondering hosting small sites for a minium fee to compensate the expense of hosting the Raq. What do hosting companys' let their Raqs be pushed to before they decide it's "full".
Chicken 01-22-2002, 09:52 PM I would say that most people might agree that 1-2 is notice to keep tabs on things, 3-5 is what I'd personally consider high, and anything above that and you'd probably want to plan on moving something. I had mine at 7.5+ and everything was still fine, but I knew it wasn't a long term solution.
Whitesell 02-08-2002, 08:43 AM Where do you find the load average?? I've got a RaQ4.
Thanks,

Chicken 02-08-2002, 11:19 AM from SSH, run top or for something web based like this:

get it here: http://phpsysinfo.sourceforge.net/

If you had 300 sites all moving a fair amount of html only pages, I'd wager you'd not have a bit of problem pumping out 300 or 400 or more gigs a month with it.
Like Chicken said, if you dumped a site like this one which is running a really busy PHP based board, you're going to run out of cpu or memory well before the 300 mark..
Just watch your top during busy times and go from there.
I'm running about 25 sites, most not very busy, and the only time the thing ever breaks a sweat is at 4:00AM every morning when it' processes the logs. Otherwise, it's not even running on idle, it's windmilling and hardly working at all..
One thing about the RaQ's that's sort of funny.. watch
/proc/cupinfo sometime when it's processing logs.. Temp will jump from 25 deg to 39 deg in about two minutes (or less).... "I think I can I think I can I think I can" :D

True, the RaQ's are great for low traffic sites. And if those are static sites, all the better!
This popular PHP/mySQL site was enough to "kill" one of our RaQ's (we've moved it to a 1GHz Pentium) - http://mailfriendschat.com.

As Chicken pointed out you can use SSH then type top or uptime, or (as Chicken didn't point out) you can simply go to the control panel then click Active Monitor and then CPU.
