Synergy 01-21-2002, 01:12 AM Is this the cost for the line?
-Rackcosts?
-Router Cost?

I assume its free :)
ColoFM 01-21-2002, 01:20 AM Synergy,
This special deal is for the 100Mbps line only. All other costs (ie. rack space, APC switch, firewall, etc.) are excluded. We give you one port on our router. If you're running multiple servers, then you'll need to provide your own switch.

.::DefCon::.
Revelation 01-21-2002, 12:35 PM 1 rack of rackspace, and a master switch? The deal sounds great, but I'm hoping you're not charging huge amounts for those two?
ColoFM 01-21-2002, 01:11 PM DefCon,
For this package, you can use one of our brand new Linux or FreeBSD server for an additional $500.00 each month. Otherwise, the monthly fees are listed on our site (ihttp://servers.colo.fm/) if ordered separately. As always, there is never a set-up fee.

.::DefCon::. 01-21-2002, 01:22 PM I mean the price for a dedicated, RedHat Linux server, how much would it cost me a month in total with your cheapest package?
In total! Because I don't completely get your pricing-system.
You do the calculating, please... ;)
So IN TOTAL, per month, cheapest solution, 1ded, RedHat
= ?
Thx
ColoFM 01-21-2002, 01:41 PM DefCon,
The monthly fee for a RedHat Linux dedicated server is $350.00 with 500GB of data transfer. Overusage is charged at $0.70 / GB.

DEmeant0r 01-21-2002, 05:47 PM Why do you offer such large quantities of bandwidth (330,000GB) for $30,000. If you paid that much for a year you could purchase a small co-lo center and a OC3 line (maybe?) you should only offer up 100Mbps
Revelation 01-21-2002, 06:55 PM Deal sounds good, but what's the price for extra ips? :)
ColoFM 01-21-2002, 07:30 PM Revelation,
Additional IPs are free, but you'll need to show 80% utilization before another block of 128 IPs are issued to you.

Who was offering anything for $30,000? Did i miss something?
$2,000 * 12 = $24,000, and if you're referring to that, a oc3 is $55,000-$155,000/MONTH from most providers, and the center? Space costs just as much.

I thought this was the standard price when buying directly from Cogent.. .$2000/month for resold bandwidth. Am I wrong or are you getting a special deal from them?
Revelation 01-21-2002, 10:33 PM 1 GBPS for $20,000 to web hosting companies. They sell 100 MBPS lines for $3,000. This does not include rack space :) The deal sounds pretty good to me!
ColoFM 01-21-2002, 10:49 PM FYI -- It's now almost impossible to get a 100Mbps or GigE line directly from Cogent due to the new 3-1 push / pull restriction that they put in place recently. Cogent is now going after enterprise clients who needs bandwidth mainly for internal use rather than web hosting.
Many of our customers have come to us recently because they were declined by Cogent. You can always try to place an order with Cogent yourself and chances are that you too will be turned down as well.

porcupine 01-21-2002, 11:01 PM ColoFM: i wasn't turned down by cogent, had no problems, it's also likely i got lucky on the phone i suppose. but hey, whats wrong with 3:1 out:in? They want balanced bandwidth over their network, otherwise their peering partners will get upset and cancel on them.
porcupine 01-23-2002, 05:11 PM what is "chapter 11" anyhow? can someone point me to a info url or explain it? first time i've heard this term (or first time i've payed attention at least).
