View Full Version : Best advertising service? (Burstnet, etc.) Anyone use everyone.net Plug-in AdSales?
poohbie 11-19-2000, 04:44 AM I'm with everyone.net, and noticed they have this Plug-in Ad Sales program. Since I get 50% of the ad banner space that they require and have no ad banners to put in that space currently, I figure it'd be good to sign up for something. All I can deduce about their Plug-in Ad Sales program is that it's CPM (what does that actually stand for? I know it's how much they pay you for showing 1000 ad impressions), and they claim it'll generate more revenue than other services (what they actually give you I have no clue).
So I'm looking for opinions on what company to go with. I'd like for it to be CPM instead of CPC (pay-per-click). A couple companies I've heard of are:
http://www.burstnet.com - not sure how it works
http://www.affiliatetarget.com - $3.5 CPM they advertise.
Is it even worth it to bother with such a service for a site that receives a couple thousand hits a day?
Any opinions on this matter which I don't know much about would be greatly appreciated. :)
Welcome aboard! Glad to have you with us.
I believe CPM = Clicks Per M (thousand in Roman numerals).
If you do a search in this forum (particularly for CPM) you might find some useful threads.
mkaufman 11-19-2000, 09:05 AM I like Burst! Media the best. I have an account with them, although you must have at least 5,000 page views a month to sign up.
etLux 11-22-2000, 05:12 AM We use Burst! Media, but I can't say I'm any too happy with them after last summer... We were regularly seeing a third or more of our inventory going unsold.
Racin' Rob 11-22-2000, 08:57 PM Burst gets a large amount of their advertising from Flycast. They were extremely slow during the summer, and therefore so was Burst.
I've been with them on and off for about 2 years now. I have had a few decent paying campaigns, but mostly I receive their lower rate reminants. I just use them to fill the holes in my inventory at the moment, but when they offer a decent paying campaign, I will increase their inventory to match it.
They are starting to offer popup window campaigns now. The rate is only slightly above what their reminants go for. I personally hate popup windows and usually stear clear of those website while surfing. So I wouldn't accept any popups unless the rate was very high.
But they only require 5000 impressions per month, so it is a good place for smaller sites to start, or larger sites to use to fill the holes.
poohbie 11-23-2000, 01:56 AM Racin' Rob,
Can you give me a general idea of what kind of rates BurstMedia pays out? (including the 'lower rate' remnants)
Do you think they're still the best option for a site that receives close to 100k impressions/month?
brainbox 11-23-2000, 05:07 AM I have a site that uses burstmedia, and quite honestly Im not at all happy with them. In the past 6 months, theyve done nothing for us towards getting us specific advertising campaigns. It's always the same stuff, general rotation, and then too many of their service campaigns.
We got three orders for campaigns, in 6 months and each time and order would be emailed to us by burst, the next morning we would find a cancellation order, saying something to the effect, of "this clients has decided to cut back on their advertising budget, and have cut your site from the campaign", what this really means to me, is that they are saying, "hey, we better send out one of these campaign orders every now and then to let people think we are really working for them", then we'll just send out the cancellation the next day.
We are not a large site, we get some 30,000 page view per day, since we refuse to sign anything beyond a month by month deal, we end up getting 50% of the income, well last month after viewing my stats on one day I was pissed as all could be, out of 30,000 page views, we received only 7,000 of their ads, the rest were the public service announcements and any other garbage that we had setup, like advertising banners, saying, "advertise here for cheap", etc. etc. etc.
Quite honestly, while our site is not a porno site, it does deal with personals ads, and we made more money privately selling porno advertisers on our site than we do with burst.
Am I close to quitting, yup, I guess if I've taken the time to write up this bit of my mind, then yes, Im ready to call it quits with them, and go back to finding my own advertisers and making some real money.
Just my two cents, which also says, that I think their all pretty much the same.

Racin' Rob 11-23-2000, 09:23 AM First, if you sign a non-exclusive contract, you will make 50% of the ad revenue and they make 50%. All rates I will show will be gross, so your net will be 50% of it.
The current reminent rates are as follows:
$1.25 - $5.00 CPM = AVG $2.67 CPM
$0.16 - $0.60 CPC = AVG $0.32 CPC
I have had campaigns in the past pay as follows:
$15.00 CPM - 88,000 Imp
$5.00 CPM - well over 100,000 Imp
$7.50 CPM - 30,000
$7.50 CPM - 18,000
$18.00 CPM - 3000 Imp
It's not great money, but it can fill you inventory if you don't sell it through other means.
You have the full power to choose which ads to disp[lay and which ads not to display. You can also detup a default campaign that will run the ad you configure to be displayed when Burst does not have one available for you.
I currently have chosen about 3/4's of the CPM ads and none of the CPC ads to be displayed, and yesterday ireceived 73% of the ads from Burst and the rest were my default campaign.
But thee isn't any ad company that is going to pay you big money for small numbers. You really can't start demanding big money until you get in excess of 2.5 Million impressions per month. That is why you will need to try to sell some of your inventory yourself.
