Hey, im a newb and well pretend I know nothing about starting a website(not true because I've been doing quite a bit of researching lately, but well pretend I didnt) Anyways, me and a few freinds started a little car club and we got like 50 people coming to our meets already. I want to start a website to promote this in hopes of expanding. I want a website with a forum, be able to host a few vids(nothing big) and small stuff like that. My freind is giving me a copy of dreamweaver, which id what I heard is good to start with. but I still dont know the basics, IE how much it will cost, how to find a host, how to make the page itself, etc,. Is there any tutorials or any information you would like to give me on how to do this? Oh and please dont give me a link saying contact these people to have it professionally done, I like doing/learning things myself. Thanks in advance

Cost?
Domain: approx $9
Hosting: Anywhere from $1 to $** per month.
How to actually make the page? Read the help files in DW. Pretty simple stuff.

Dreamweaver is the best place to start, even for a beginner if you follow the tutorials available on hundreds of websites you will be able to create a decent website. If you want some graphics and you want to make these yourself then you should look into a program such as adobe photoshop or fireworks (which is also from Macromedia who produced Dreamweaver). Just download a forum such as phpBB which is free and then include a link on your website. As bear said, you also need to think about hosting costs... try using the quote form on this website if you already haven't done so. Go to google or your favourite search engine and type in "dreamweaver tutorials" this should give you a nice list of websites with what you need.

Hope this helps.

Under normal circumstances, I recommend people starting in Web design to learn the most basic Web coding technologies (HTML/CSS) before getting into programs like Dreamweaver. However, if you're only interested in creating one site for you and your pals, I'll modify my recommendation slightly and suggest you simply orient yourself with the basics of these technologies, perhaps not to the point that developers creating business sites or starting development businesses might, but enough to understand what's happening behind the scenes.

Find yourself a nice tutorial or two on the basics of HTML and CSS. Reference these while you're learning Dreamweaver, and dip into code view every once in a while so you can see what's happening when you place new elements on a page or modify parts of a design. It will serve you very well, even if you're only creating a single site.

I don't encourage the idea of using a tool to make your site. If you need to establish skills, learn html, css, the new xhtml version, also web graphics by photoshop will help greatly. That will help you edit stuff later from html, and easily integrate/add new stuff...
