TheWingThing 11-19-2000, 09:14 AM Chicken,
I was expecting a new .web but then they have left this out. .web seems to be the next best after .com and .net
Wonder why they left it out.
BTW, Have you thought abt poultry.biz? Jus' kiddin'

I read somewhere that they decided not to do .web because lots of people - according to webtld.com, 20,000 people - have already registered .web names. And the names don't even "work" yet! There was an issue of what to do about people who'd already registered good .webs, should the database be cleared out so that everyone had a chance or would the speculators be able to keep their .webs, etc. etc. I tried to confirm this info on ICANN's site but couldn't find it.
Chicken 11-19-2000, 12:23 PM So by proving they could do it, WebTLD shot themselves in the foot (at least initially). Ironic eh? Maybe charging people wasn't the best idea just yet?
Anyway, if people want a shorter name they can already go for a different contry code, so I don't see the need for more, really expensive TLDs.

Your dotbizsucks.biz likely wouldn't be allowed, since unlike .com domains .biz will only be available for "legitimate" businesses. Too bad this plan http://www.wirednews.com/news/politics/0,1283,34691,00.html didn't pan out; you could have gone with dotbiz.sucks instead!
