Hello,
I currently have a reseller account where I have several sites. These sites make use of PERL scripts that take other sites' web pages, extract some information from them and display that to the user. They might call 20 or more web sites then process the HTML.
Now, I want to improve the speed of this as while they're doing this the user is waiting.
So I'm considering getting a VPS, as that way I can be certain of minimum CPU and RAM. I'd want this for 2 reasons - 1) So that I can get a system that runs faster, 2) So that it is consistantly faster due to the minimum CPU/RAM compared to a reseller.
Now, the question is: will I notice any difference by moving to a VPS? I'm currently with HTTPMe and their reseller accounts get good reviews, but I have no idea how that compares to a VPS.
Using Dinix as an example, as they also seem to get good reviews here, their cheapest VPS is $35/month. That's what I'm currently paying HTTPMe for my reseller account, so logic would say that that VPS wouldn't be any better...? Especially as Dinix give you nearly 4 time the bandwidth of HTTPMe and 3 times the disk space.
I could go for Dinix's highest VPS, at $95/month. But that's then not too far off the cost of a dedicated server (Ok, low spec, but dedicated).
So what I really want to know is - what type of VPS should I get to provide noticably more power than my current reseller account.
Any advice will be gratefully received! :)
