I have had a dedicated server for a while now, but recently switched to a provider that gave me multiple IP addresses. What I want to do is use these IPs for different sites and/or services (ie mail-blah-com is one one IP and www-blah-com is on another). I have a linux server running Fedora Core 2, and the extra IPs are set up as lo:1-8 on my box. Here's the thing: I can't ping any of these IPs, but I can ping the primary IP for the server. Can someone help me set up these other IPs so I can use them? Thanks!

(PS: i am running my own dns, so that isn't an issue, oh, and those dashes instead of dots are because they don't let you post web links on the first 5 posts).

The extra ip set up to lo:? Do you mean like
lo 1234.1234.1234.1230
lo:1 1234.1234.1234.1231
lo:2 1234.1234.1234.1232

it should set up as
eth0 1234.1234.1234.1230
eth0:1 1234.1234.1234.1231
eth0:2 1234.1234.1234.1232

If the installation was done by dedi provider, make support ticket.
If it was done by you, change the way to set up to use eth0

If you set up by yourself, what method did you use to set up your ip? How to fix this will be depend on the method you use.

It was set up by the dedicated provider (15minuteservers-com). Yes,
lo:1 123.123.123.123
lo:2 123.123.123.124
etc.

So I should put in a ticket to have this changed? Or would it harm anything to change it myself?

It will be safe to open support ticket. Someone who install your server screw up ( major minus point to 15 minuteservers :) ) and can be fixed in few minutes. You can fix it very easily but to be safe and make 15minutesserver responsible for what happen, I sugest to open ticket.
Let me know how fast their respinse on this matter.

15minuteservers did not screw up. THat is now they configure the boxes. I have gotten into MANY arguements over this with their techs.... its just how they setup boxes. They claim its because "control panels" require it to be setup on loopback...They should be pingable regardless if they were eth0 or lo.

It only took 15minuteservers.com about 5 minutes to respond. They set up the additional IPs as lo:1, lo:2, etc. as standard procedure. But something was misconfigured on their end so I couldn't ping the IPs. The tech fixed it for me and all is working well now. Great service!

I'm learning everyday. :)
My bad. Never setup like that and just learned con and pro of the loopback set up by search net.
Glad to hear they were able to fix it that soon.
With that response rate you better open ticket first before post in here. They never going to charge or do work without your permission if that involve cost.
