View Full Version : where can i get a 3D character/cartoon model?
easzdesigns 09-28-2004, 11:25 AM Hi folks,
I am looking for a character or cartoon model preferably 3D but not essential for my website.
Does any one know of any websites where I can get this done?
Thanks in advanced.
Marc :)
Mirage-ISP 09-28-2004, 01:01 PM make one with poser. Thats the fastest I can think of.
renderosity.com, turbo squid may have some free models.
easzdesigns 09-28-2004, 01:03 PM is poser easy to use?
Mirage-ISP 09-28-2004, 01:05 PM Well its the easiest of the 3D programs and comes with ready made models which you can immediately use. LOL, I just used it to make a logo for a site. I was laughing when I was making it but it got chosen for the project.
the_pm 09-28-2004, 01:05 PM Exceptionally easy, by 3D modeling standards. Poser comes with some great documentation, and there are good tutorials online as well. For rudimentary modeling, you can self-teach yourself the basics in less than a half hour. The price is reasonable, at $400 (last time I checked), but some people might find this prohibitive. I think it's well worth the money, personally.
sea otter 09-28-2004, 01:09 PM Take a look at 3dcafe; it's a good resource and jumping-off point:

easzdesigns 09-28-2004, 01:23 PM thanks for your advice guys, i will look at poser and see what happens.
thanks again
Marc :)
easzdesigns 09-28-2004, 04:13 PM I found a trial of poser on a cd mag that i have.
I installed it but it wont run because it uses up all my memory and i have 1GB of memory.
Does this happen with all the poser versions?
Marc
the_pm 09-28-2004, 04:15 PM Poser is a super resource-intensive program, but I've gotten it to run reliably on a 1.7 P-IV and 512 Mb. RAM. Try restarting your computer to clear your RAM/cache and try it again. 1 GB of memory should be more than enough, though it might take a little time to load (20-30 seconds in some cases).
easzdesigns 09-28-2004, 04:20 PM found the problem, they have a memory updater for people who have 1gb or more on their computer...
If any one else is having the same problem you can download it at this address...

websterworld 09-30-2004, 06:15 AM Anybody here have used 3DSM and Poser and can tell me from experience which they liked better? I cant decide now, Poser looks good.
the_pm 09-30-2004, 07:44 AM Hey Eugene, I only own Poser, and if it does what your're looking to do, there's no need to spend the money for 3DSM. If you want to get into more complex 3D modeling though, 3DSM is pretty awesome, from the little experience I've had with it.

Decisions, Decisions , eh Paul?
The appeal that I see in Poser is its ease of use. Most posters in this thread seem to suggest that its a walk in a park to use it. Knowing 3D app's I'm not so sure about that.
I'll try the trial.

Everything is relative, my friend. :)
Try learning Poser in-depth as your next project, and you'll probably have some struggles with the software. Try learning Maya, then go back to Poser, and suddenly Poser will feel about as easy to use as PowerPoint. But for the absolute basics, it really is that easy. Hope you have a hearty CPU and some RAM!
