I used to have Lyris when I had a shared service with a hosting company and that was the only experience I had with a mailing list software. Now that I'm going to colo my own servers, I don't think I can afford Lyris as it's very pricy. What do you recommend for a good customer support solution (I'm a software developer) where they can subscribe/unsubscribe via e-mail, etc., and I can send out mass e-mails to the customers when new software versions I release, etc.?

Interested in your opinions on mailing list programs (standalone or embedded with an e-mail program as I haven't purchased one of those yet).

Thanks!

Subscribe me lite 2.02 is a great and simple program which I currently use, can easily handle 200,000 e-mail addreses.

Yeah, I used that Subscribe Me script as well on one of my sites and I'm happy with it. It's a web-based mailing list software though so doesn't offer some advanced features that Lyris supports.
